Roommate sleeps through three VERY loud alarm clocks

My new roommate has major sleep issues. He used three alarm clocks to wake himself up (and can sleep through all three going off at once). Unfortunately, they also wake me up. Any thoughts? I have no clue how to approach this.

Get the ones that deaf people use. It's a vibrating one that you put in your pillow.

Tell him to grow up and go to bed earlier so he isn't so tired. I was a dumbass like your roommate for my first semester at college, and then I realized sleep is actually important and you are much more functional as a human being if you get enough of it. You also wake up to the first alarm clock.

my housemate uses the vibrating ones. it goes off @ 4am, and i can hear it from the other side of the house. I can hear this low rumble throughout, and it shakes the garage door opening motor lol.

I have 5 alarm clocks going all off at different intervals, all placed in different places around the room. I literally cannot hear them clearly... It's like this distant, muffled sound and it takes them about 1 hour the annoying noises to finally register in my head, and i wake up. I hate how i can never wake up.

Wierd thing is, a human being can wake me up instantly. I can wake up before the alarm clock, or even wake up very easily on time when I am sleeping not at home (hotel, someone else's house, etc...). Just that when I am in my own bed, I have problems.

I get on avg 7-8 hours nightly. What sucks is that when I am left untouched to sleep through, I last about 10 hours avg.

Some people just hibernate like a bear. I had a buddy in college that would go to bed at 8:00PM and would sleep till 12:00 the next day if you let him. That guy could sleep through a marching band parading through his room.

That's got to be really dangerous. If there is a fire or other emergency, he could sleep through it. Unless you are exaggerating how loud the alarms are. For the same reason, it is recommended not to sleep with IEMs.

ya that's the problem... I slept through earthquakes, dorm-room fire alarm drills, etc... It's as if when I am in my sleeping state, I don't give a crap about anything.. I hate it.

you know that has nothing to do with it, in college my roomate and I slept through the damn fire alarm more then once and were awoken by the fire fighters/popo, i was sleeping on the couch in my house last week when a semi hit a car directly in front of my house, and i didnt notice it at all, and it was literally 100 feet from where i was

some people are just really heavy sleepers

Same here. I got in trouble once when I slept through the fire alarm and the fire marshalls found me when they were doing their walk through. I used to set 4-5 alarm clocks and have a vibrating one under my pillow.

Now I have a grumpy gf that wakes me up when the alarm clock wakes her up:)

I am not exagerating the loudness. They are very, very loud.

I will have to ask if he has tried the vibrating ones.

Invent a pair of vibrating/shocking pajama pants. Use him as your guinea pig. If you get rich from it, remember me.

I did tell him that if they ever go off a third time, *something* will be thrown at him.

Get a new roommate. That crap is going to make you insane sooner or later, then you'll kill him or someone else and your life will be over. Is it worth it?

I've got two new roommates but I'm the problem. lol. i, like another poster, sleep like a bear because of misc. sleep problems and sometimes don't go to bed early enough. I've got four alarms and sometimes i do not wake up at all. the other morning my roommate said he heard at least two alarms go off...they were eventually turned off (he says he doesn't know how long) and it wasn't him or the other roommate. yet, i have absolutely no recollection of turning any alarms off at all. however, as soon as he opened my door to see if i was awake, i sprung right out of bed. WTF is the deal here? i have never tried vibrating alarm clocks but i don't have much faith.

I was going to suggest that the OP kill the roomie, dispose of the body, and get a new room-mate...

There's no excuse for sleeping through 3 alarms. It's a matter of training and self-discipline. Period.

you're an idiot that has never had any severe sleep problems. just because when you went to bed 'on time' you could get up with no problems does not mean everyone else can, asshole
