Roommate is getting a cat

I am a dog person, but when I talked to my roommate about getting a guinea pig possibly, she said I should get a cat. A week later she asks if we can get a cat, and I tell her I don't mind. So she's bringing in a cat tomorrow...

I think I should lock my door from now on because I make a mess in the room... clothes all over the floor, and a mess on my desk.. computer case open. Can't have cat hair all over my stuff and cat scratching up my comp =P

What else should I be aware of...
 
make it very clear that it is her cat, not your cat. That way you won't be responsible for changing the litter, feeding it and taking care of it when she goes over to her boyfriends for a week.

Yea, I should definitely define that since I do go home on weekends once in a while...
 
Just make sure your roommate is a responsible person, feeds it and cleans the litter on a regular basis. Make sure to keep your door closed at all times or you'll have a visitor in your room whether you like it or not.

Don't worryabout cat hair in your machine, just get some compressed air to have ready.

Nah, not worried about cat hair entering my computer.. I have filters and what not that I clean out on a regular basis. More of a problem is cat hair on my clothes. I'm pretty bad with laundry meaning that when I do it, I don't hang it all up so half of it lies in my hamper, and a good chunk lies on the floor for a few days until I have the energy to hang it all (also a problem because I dont have enough hangers). I just don't want cat hair over my stuff...

And how bad do cats smell?
 
How long is she going to be away from the cat at one time? Where is it going to be kept when she's away? My apartmentmate's fiance (fiancee? I never knew there was a difference until recently) got a kitten last year, and they tried to keep it in their bedroom while they were both away during the day. That thing just started howling because it was all alone in there. A kitten or cat might really start to make noise if it's kept in a small room for a long time.
This particular kitten would start howling about 5 minutes after the door was closed without anyone else in there. The best way to describe her is "attention whore." 🙂

My kittens never smell. The litterbox may smell right after use or if it hasn't been cleaned in too long.

My old roommate had a cat that she kept in her room 24/7, it would cry and whine when we were home and she wasnt cause it could hear us and wanted to be around us. After she moved out I went into her room and found that the cat had clawed the ****** out of the carpet and got me screwed on my deposite...

No cats or dogs ever again.
