About a year ago, I bought some 4x6 tables from Staples for a party. 3 months after that, my friend and roommate (one person, 21 years old as am I) took them to another house for a different party *without asking me*. Ever since then, I have asked him to bring my tables back but he is so LAZY he won't make the 3 minute drive to go get them.

Well, after 9 months of asking, I finally get ONE back last night. It is ruined! The top is scratched and the "wood" topping is removed in some places (showing particle board underneath). The table has horriffic water damage all around it, and it is definitley not the Brand New condition that they left the house in.

What should I do & say? I am really pissd because he disrespected my things, and I understand it's a worthless table, but it's MY worthless table!

The tables were $40 each, the other table they are using in their house and they don't want to give it back. Should I make my roommate pay for BOTH and have him talk to the other people or should I just write the tables off and I'm being too whiny? I have yet to discuss this matter with him, but I can tell he doesn't care that my table is ruined :/

Its your own fault, sorry.

If he's 3 minutes away, why not just show up and take it back. You waited 9 months...

Simple, his car can transport them and mine can't. It's waaayyy too far to go walk down the street with a table. I didn't wait 9 months, I asked him EVERY weekend to bring them back.

Sounds like a lazy friend. With that in mind it will probably take him 9 months to pay you anyhow (if he ever does).

"Well, after 9 months of asking"

Show up at his house and say "Bring the tables back now". The 2 of you are partially to blame...

So if I took something of yours and didn't bring it back even when you asked me every week, and when you got them back they were ruined, it'd be your fault, right?

I'd like to be your friend.

as someone had suggested, call the police, or dial 9-11, to file a report on this mishap... your roommate must pay.

Clearly your roommate has no respect for you. You are going to have to either beat his ass or write off the $80 to being a pussy.

It sounds like you're both at fault. Him for abusing your property, and you for being such a pansy for so long. I would've given a roommate a month, then said "you're paying for new ones." That's the time frame my friends and I have set for these matters. Gives you time to make arrangements to meet with the necessary people to get the property back. Any more than that and it's laziness and disrespect.

Calling the police is a horrible idea. What do I say "WAAH HE RUINED MY TABLE WAAAH" when the're supposed to be stopping crime? LOL
