Rooming With Opposite Sex

I'm a male. Do you think rooming with a girl is a bad idea?

My current roommates girlfriend's family is buying a house for her and her sisters. My roommate and his girlfriend are going to study abroad, so I'm going to rent out her room while they are gone. Once they get back, she will get her room, and I'll go back to living with my old roommate.

I'll be living with my the girl's younger sister and potentially a 2nd roommate who will most likely be a girl. The sister is clean, intelligent, and level-headed, so I think she will be a good roommate. But do you think gender difference could cause any problems?

See poll. I'm assuming everyone who is answering is a male.

Treat your roommate like a guy and you'll have no problems. That means, don't be afraid to tell them to clean up after themselves, pay their dues, and if they get lippy, smack them around.

This has been addressed a hundred times before in the L&R forums.

The general consensus is NO! Sooner or later something bad will happen.

I'm surprised at the results. From talking to her sister (I haven't hung out with her too much) she is clean, nice, and cute. No pics.

I had cute asian chick as a roommate. She wasn't the most clean person, but I have seen worse. When we cleaned together, that worked the best at keeping the place clean. Plus her guy friends were cool, so I was hanging out with them too. The best perk was having a good looking asian with decent size boobs always around lol. She actually wanted me to keep being her roommate after her old roommate came back.

If you want to keeps the gf then no, other wise move in and do both of them once you have a chance because eventually they will be fighting and you will be caught in the cross fires.

I have had 2 roommates that are girls and 1 other guy in the same house. It worked out well, however it was a platonic relationship with everyone in the house.

My roommate is going out with the one that will be gone when I live there. Currently, it's just me and the girl sisters. We have no special relationship.

If neither of you are creepy, overly self-conscious, or a douchebag, then go for it. I prefer living with girls, and have done it for the last 3 years.

I lived with 2 female room mates for 3 years when I was in University.... Things to know, they were messier than any guy I know (YMMV)...

I'm going to be living with a girl next year myself... so if it'll be as bad as everyone says, we can share a ticket for the failboat. 😛

It depends on the women.... Simple as that.

When i first moved to Seattle I roomed with two women (23 & 27), they are clean and fairly quiet. I did end up sleeping with one, but really that is the one mistake you shouldn't make. My situation worked out because we both were just having fun and didn't let it fuck things up. %97 of the time that isnt the case.

Back to topic, meet them first before moving in.

QFT!!!!

If she is anything like her sister, she will be pretty clean. Her sister will clean our dishes because she doesn't like dirty dishes. They both complain about the douchebags who leave garbage in the middle of the hallway. Plus the sister doesn't know how to cook, so that limits a lot of the potential mess.

I have always heard girls are messy too. I had a large group of teenage girls spend the night at my house one time for a church event. When I got back the next day, my room was a mess. 🙁

I'll bookmark and link this topic to any other topics I have over the roommate situation next fall.

I have to meet the Dad (townhome owner) and talk to him before actually renting a room. I've heard he is the guy you don't want to mess with.
