From my experience, Roomba is useless on carpets...I had one burn a motor out on a carpet. My house is all hardwood floor, and the Roomba is flawless. Nice to be able to get other work done while cleaning the floors at the same time.

I have a dog and a cat...neither one pays any attention to the machine at all. In fact, it runs into my dog if he's standing there and he just gives it a look.

Nice deal.

What kind of carpets do you have? So far mine has run on low and medium pile carpets without any problems.

Yep, it does. Fun to watch. It's not very efficient about finding its base, and our living room confuses it (there's a couch out toward the middle of the room, and the Roomba has a hard time figuring it out) but it handles it.

How well does your Discovery work with the cat hair?

Pretty well. It needs to be emptied every time it runs, definitely. It's little container ends up completely full of cat hair. Like most reviews I've read, if the room was really bad I wouldn't expect the Roomba to completely clean it. But if I run it every couple days, it seems to keep up.
Because of the shape of the rooms I run it in, I find I have to start it in a different part of the room every time I start it. That way, over the course of a few runs, it's more likely to hit all the nicks and crannies of the room.

I bought the Discovery SE model off WOOT last Fall and I love it. IT REALLY WORKS! It does a good job of cleaning the floor and always picked up alot of dirt. It is quite smart and in terms of navigation and can usually get itself out of trouble if it gets stuck somewhere. Whats more, ITS A FREAKING ROBOT!!!1

For $161 shipped, this is a good deal and comes in about $10 more than WOOT would charge on this model.

Okay, figured out my stair problem. Tech support said it doesn't handle rounded stairs very well. The cliff sensor looks for hard drops, like the square edges that wooden stairs have or thinly-carpeted stairs would have. I have medium-thickness carpet and the edge is kind of rounded, so it sometimes makes a mistake and falls down. They offered to replace my Roomba, but it's working fine despite the falls, so I think I'll just order a couple extra virtual walls to solve the problem.

I got mine today too. I am assuming it's the newer model. How can one tell if it's the newer model or not?

The wheel will swivel in the socket like a chair caster, also it's half black - half white.

Yeah, the front wheel will swivel around and it's half black, half white - the old one has a stationary wheel that doesn't swivel and is all black.

Also, the newer model has a skinnier white-ish Virtual Wall instead of a thick gray one. I'll post pictures later.

OK then, I have the newer model with B/W wheel. Sorry Kaido, I couldn't wait 16 hours, I only charged it 9 hours:clock: and started playing with it. Man, this thing is great.
