Roomate wants to know if his drawings are any good

Not particularly good. Tell him to look into a copy of 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain' and do the exercises inside. They will really help him. After he completes that book he can look into doing a lithograph series or drawing from a cast.

The last several of the first group are rather well done. The figure drawings and then the portrait.

Others, to be honest, are average.

What seem to be his later ones are "good." He should keep at it if he wants to make some awesome drawings. Practice with life/model/gesture drawings, but I am sure he knows that.

i believe the last of the first group are his most recent.. he has only been drawing for 3 years or so iirc.

also, the naked lady is my fault for blurring it when i took the photo.

You don't have the balls to tell him no?

no, i actually think they are pretty good to an extent. i have seen some great work, but i do believe he has some very good detail within the hair.

you can certainly tell that those are more recent. Very few people have natural talent for drawing without practicing. You can tell that his work has evolved.
Personally, figure drawing is most difficult for me so i tend to be critical of it when I see it. They are good. I would tell him to keep working on it, there is certainly potential.

Thanks for the NSFW warning on the naked woman.

My boss was not happy and I got the "don't do that again" look. :|

You mean the rear shot? How do you know that is a woman?

I saw better when I was a student at the Art Institute, but I also saw a lot worse.

Not bragging btw, the art institute is basically an ITT technical institute but for graphic design and cooking (!?) If you're impressed by someone saying they went to AI, you shouldn't be.

What does he want to do with his drawing skill? Is he looking for a career or is it just something he does because he likes to draw?
