World of Warcraft ruins lives. I've seen it happen with my own eyes to people around me. Its like an entry drug. People don't know how to balance games and life pick up this game and for a lot of people, and it can become a dangerous addiction. The addiction is real, and you should find a way to help him if he is your best friend.

Many people balance them just fine, but then the balance starts to shift more and more to the game. It's no simpler than quitting smoking, and it's worse than smoking in some regards.

What is it with that game and all these losers who seem to get addicted to it? I doubt whether there is anything that anyone can do for him, he's going to have to figure it out himself. Sounds like he's dug himself a hole that he won't get out of anytime soon.....

You seem not to understand - it isn't related to that game only - there are people with addiction to lots and lots of other games (Starcraft, other MMO RPGs, even games that run just on your computer). It might be the fact that no matter how low you are on the society scale of values, in game you are a superhero (or maybe not).
I've heard of someone that was addicted to posting on Internet boards - he posted hundreds messages a day, for the last several years (I've heard of that when he died).

Addictions are not only in the games.

I agree with most of this. It seems that the "Information Technology" age has changed how alot of humans interact with society. Today there seem to be more "loners" and anti-social people than previously, before computers and the Internet became easily available. Games are not the only cause.. (mIRC, ICQ, IM programs, games, discussion boards, blogs, Myspace, etc..etc.. etc..). It seems alot of individiuals lives revolve around the online world. This definately cannot be healthy.

just block the ip address of us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com in the router
and he won't be able to logon.

I really don't understand how this game is addictive. I had an account and played it for a while, but it's just stupid quests like "Go kill 350,000 monsters to get 5 gems and bring them back to me!" or "Walk across the room and tell this guy to give you a quest to come back and talk to me"

I couldn't get into it. I tried to, but I can't even stand watching someone play it.

Find out what his login is, and when he is sleeping, log in and sell all his gear. If he doesn;t jump out of the window from insanity then he might make it.

otherwise, intervention BEEYOTCH! (gotta love Dave Chappelle)

So.. you're saying that you believe that different people have different interests, habits, opinions, and vices? Have you considered publishing your profound findings? 😀

I was thinking the same thing...

Ausm

Throw the circuit breakers

Tell him you didn't have money for utilities..

Watch how fast he goes to work to "power-up" his game

The best way to stay off WOW is to have a life, and keep busy. I have a set time I play from M-Th, all my other free time is taken up. Try getting your roomate into other hobbies that will require his time, like going out to party with you guys.

Find girls, introduce him to said girls, then go somewhere with the girls. He will follow.

mine does. Get the alternative firmware.

My firmware is: Firmware Version: v4.71.1
The Linksys router is the: WRT54GS

I thought that was the most recent firmware because I did update it once I bought it.

Use a 3rd party like HyperWRT Thibor. Or, you could just edit his hosts file... *edit*beat to it*edit*

127.0.0.1 us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com

I agree, some people's desire to avoid confrontation is so ridiculous it's sad. Grow a pair please.

Just tell him straight that his ass will be homeless if he doesn't work and have rent money. I really dont understand why people like that piece of crap game.

How in the fvck can you get addicted to a video game?! The only game I really play is BF1942😀C, and that's after going to school from 8-12, then work 12-6, then homework 6-9...

Yes. The guy during the OP's post has done nothing wrong.

Again most people don't understand crap and just spout off how they do this and that...

most of the time, their lives are worse.

Ppl should mind their own business 90% of the time. If they really want to 'care', get out and vote.
