Actually, its better to have a one dual opteron vs 2 pcs for that -> By this fall you could put 2 Italy chips in it and have a 4-processor system.

And this is the best 1g non-registered memory ->

I'm sure you're right, but at this point I'm doing the video/audio stuff for my own personal projects, so I'm not too concerned with it. Like I said, aside from storage and real-time effects limitations, my current PC can handle my audio/video stuff. If time was a major concern - in other words, if I had a lot of paying clients - then I might re-think my setup. But this system should suit my needs just fine, I think.

But yeah, if I had an infinite spending limit then I'd look into other options. But as good as your recommended RAM may very well be, it's just too expensive for me. And people have said on here that if you don't plan on overclocking (which I don't), buying the expensive performance RAM over the value stuff isn't going to yield huge results. Besides, I can get 2GB of decent value RAM for $226, which is a lot easier on the checkbook than 2GB of performance RAM for $400-$500. I had originally planned on getting the OCZ Performance RAM, and I'm glad I got talked out of it.

I'd like to point out that your sata raid setup would be perfect for a scratch disk setup, when your digitizing your footage, all the media content would be held there or some other external raid setup or maybe a nas, or sans setup with scsi ip, fiber optic if you can afford that. The actual programs, after affects, protools, vegas, premiere et al would be held in one of the ide hard drives, so in this way when your run your NLE you'd access your media from a totally separate channel. Perhaps that what you meant but I didn't hear it that way.
