I like Ron Paul, he's one of the few (if not the only) truly principled members of congress.

He won't win the presidency though. There just aren't enough libertarians out there. Also, he'd be 77 by 2013, which is frankly too old.

Yeah, I used to be all like, "Woo Ron Paul is the shit, vote for Ron Paul..."

then I found out his stances on things like abortion and that he is actually really fucking crazy and basically wants to go back on the bartering system.

They don't need a centralized authority behind them. States can <insert item here> themselves.

Yes you do need a centralized authority behind them otherwise you wouldn't have one of the bigger economic strengths of our country, the interstate system.

Lol wut, no he doesn't.

As far as I know he's against the federal reserve printing as much fiat money as it wants to finance the governments massive deficits to support the warfare state, corporate welfare etc

He wants people to actually use [gasp] actual money backed by something, I know crazy right? something we did for thousands of years and only stopped doing like 40 years ago.

Its not like we would be electing him to be dictator anyway, most of his "crazy" ideas that people fear probably wouldn't happen even if he got in.

No, he does want to go back to the bartering system. He doesn't favor the government creating legal tender, even if it's gold coins.

Really? Can you post a link to a quote where Ron Paul supports going back to the barter system. Last I heard he wanted Congress to follow the Constitution when it comes to creating money.

I believe he does, because he favors competing currencies/free market money (anything as money). I don't think he favors a return to a governmental gold standard.

If Congress creates money, they can debase it/rebase it, and that would cause a centralized boom bust cycle.

No, I mean bad ideas like a return to the gold standard.

There's a reason why so few people voted for him.

Yes, the unbacked federal reserve notes have been a stunning success right?
I mean the 2011 dollar is worth a whole 2-3 cents compared with the 1913 dollar and we are running our government to the brink of bankruptcy with deficits. But hey, anything else is crazy talk right?
We've had fiat dollars throughout US history, they always fail because our wise overlords think they can print as much as they want with no consequences.

He wouldn't even return to the gold standard anyway, simply make it legal for gold and silver to circulate as money.
