Are you going by the definition of assault by todays laws/standards or from the 1960s? I was in high school in the late 60s, early 70s in a middle class neighborhood and this kind of stuff happened from time to time. The police were never called nor the offenders arrested. No one ever talked about physical assault. They would get reprimanded and maybe suspended by the principal if they were caught.

I don't condone what Romney and his gang did but at the same time it was and is not a big deal.

Anyone remember the Pitts and the Frats in high school?

I was just continuing your list of oxymorons. You started with a doozy, so I went to the biggest extremes I could find in order to make them match yours.

Anyone remember what happened 9 days ago in 1970... (May 4th) As an extreme example... that was 5 years after Romney's thing.

I am not speaking to the act itself but, rather, why it occurred... same as the Kent State event... why... why... why... That is the important bit... What mind set enables one to do stuff like that... trivial or extreme they both occur from the minds that engage in such events...
Examine the thinking process... Not everyone batters their fellow class mates... the ones who throw chalk at the teacher which is trivial do so for a reason... and that is what I try to understand... What motivates action... and from there I can extrapolate.

We are speaking to the pattern or at least I am... IS there a pattern of behavior from the first known event through to today and what conclusions are reasonable to draw from that?

I'm not saying there IS. That is, I'm not saying Romney is a this or that but I am suggesting what is important to make those kinds of indictments... The pattern of behavior. I'm not going to convince those who'd defend Romney. I am simply trying to show that he is not what he appears to be on the surface...
Some interesting bits might be his latest determination that he should take a major share of the credit for the GM thing... What does that mean to the on going pattern... is it consistent and all that. Why does he always produce that laughter... that phony laughter when he explains himself out of a pickle jar.

Many folks do a joint MBA/JD program at Harvard... That is a four year program... Obama did a JD which took 3 but yet he, Romney, made an interesting comment... (Loosely) "Obama spent too much time at Harvard"... I know the context in which it was made... Why would he say that considering his tenure there? On and on there are instances that begin to paint a picture... Each human paints a picture of themselves based on what they do or say... little stuff. But, stuff that has a motivation... What ever that is and if it is consistent tells the story of the painting.

The comment he made about the donuts... What could possibly been the reason that was made?... that they had to be from 7/11... Is he so uncaring or just unable to think about the next move from that one... Has he ever played chess... He's about as smart a person you'd find... He is so far above the norm I'd call him extremely sharp... Is his defect simply a narcissistic condition? I can't imagine there not being many in Congress with the same issue...

Obama is not stupid either... but he sure does know how to appear to be a caring person... he may be a lying monster but I've not seen anything to evaluate regarding that... Maybe he hides it well and Romney shoots from the hip without thinking making the assumption that what he does say must be ok since he said it... No need to think it out... he's that sure of himself..

With the full understanding that many times your political opponents will create lies about you to see if they stick (both sides do it), would you apologize for something you do not remember doing?

This. If rommie-boy admits it, the left will jump up and down screaming "BULLLLYYYYYY!!!!" for the rest of the election cycle.

Obummer, in his own words, admitted to bullying a girl in high school.

I have 4 kids, 22, 20, 17, 15, so I consider myself reasonably experienced at teenage behavior. Quite frankly, most teenagers are idiots in one way or another.

Sorry, but this story is yet another way of forcing attention away from the economy, which is obummer's only valid play.

I have no idea sir. But from what I heard over the weekend, the alleged 'victim' of Romney's actions had passed away. So if Romney can't remember / won't admit to it and the other party is no longer with us, we'll never know.

But again, this was 47 years ago. Can we move on, please?

The Pitts were James Dean, greased back hair, T-shirt wearing tough guys that wore black leather pointy toe shoes that were called --- pitt shoes. The frats looked like fraternity type kids. This was in New Orleans, don't know if it was a nationwide thing. We didn't have the interweb back then.
 
We had hoods, jocks, and preps. The jocks gave the hoods a run for their money in the drug use department...the hoods simply did not try to hide their use while the jocks did.
