Romney could be the beneficiary of an $8.5B ponzi scam.

First my congratulations for reading something other than far right tinfoil hat websites.

Secondly I have absolutely no love for Romney, but that article may be the most poorly written chockful of unsubstantiated conclusions mess I've ever seen. There are perfectly reasonable explanations why many of the investors in Romney's son's fund also contributed to Romney's campaign (old college buddies, same countryclub, etc). Calling that a Ponzi scheme is a huge, huge stretch-at least from what is presented in the article.

Article several paragraphs in still had not gotten to the point. Attention span = gone.

I did, on the other hand, read your post. And apparently you had the same impression I did of the article, so glad I didn't read it.

The only thing we know for a fact is that Madoff was a major donor to the Democratic party.

This article is pure speculation.

The thread title is a little misleading. If beneficiary to an 8.5B ponzi scheme means your son hires 3 people being investigated by the SEC for working for Stanford Financial (the $8.5B ponzi scheme) then yes Mitt Romney is a beneficiary of an $8.5B ponzi scheme.

Plenty of other things to dislike Romney over, but this might not be one of them.

that article has a lot of words but says nothing..

come out with proof and then lets crucify the guy!

The funniest part of this whole thing is how Anarchist makes the claim that Romney could never win the general election, whereas he's the only Republican hopeful currently that actually could win the general election.

winning doesn't matter as much as sticking to your principles. The repubs will stick to them in the form of perry.

So, the Dems and Romney may have benefited from Madoff-style schemes? Sounds like dirty business as usual in DC.

I don't think it's that huge of a stretch.

It is speculation, but given the evidence presented (provided it wasn't fake), it seems pretty likely. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not true. Romney already stole from people as governor of MA when he could've funded the shit he wanted on his own. He's always seemed like a used car salesman to me.

Not a fan of Romney but stupid article is stupid. It's like saying the people that invested in Madoff's ponzi were responsible for the fraud.

Where is the news? Where are the facts?

It's like, and just making this up as a farcical example to highlight the flaws in this article, fact is Romney refuses to disclose details of where he was 9/11/01 - we need to seriously question is he hiding his involvement in the attacks on the World Trade Center?????!!!!!! One of the guys who worked in the World Trade Center was a campaign donor to Romney...

That article is a carbon-copy of what Glenn Beck used to do day in and day out on his tv show on Fox News.

Huntsman actually appears to be the most reasonable person among the GOP candidates, so of course that means he's polling at low single digits. He's the only one who I'd bet money on verses Obama. Romney is just the Republican version John Kerry.

Very good analogy to Kerry, but don't you think you are being a bit too harsh on Kerry? Both are handsome, incredibly rich and Massholes, and while Kerry has the whole imitation JFK stick down pat (that no one believes but himself) Romney trumps him as the incredible facile politician with his inclination to do or so anything at all to get in the good graces of his current audience. With Kerry you at least knew what you were getting, with Romney all bets are off-his decisions will be totally dependent upon current polls and contribution levels.

The only actual fact I could find in this article of substance was his son started an investment company and worked with (possibly hired) people now under investigation by the SEC for fraud.

Oh, that and the fact he invested $10 million in VC to his son for this business, and has been paid back around $1 million so far over roughly 3 years.

How is a (supposed) current net loss of $9 million benefiting from anything?

Not to mention the tiny little statement that his son hired the three guys under investigation *after* the supposed pyramid scheme and start of the investigation occurred?

This has to be one of the worst articles I've read in a long time, and I'm positive this "reporter" has wasted more of my time and money than Romney ever likely will. I'm starting to re-consider including Huffingtonpost in my daily "scan the news" list, as this is as bad as anything I've read on Fox News and it seems to be a trend over there.

All that said, I think Romney is a complete clown. But seriously, this article probably is more likely to gain the dude votes than sway anyone against him.
