Rome - Total War

The Godfather

Ok, i just installed it, and i start the game. I see the screen with all the Activition ads on it and some writing, then it blinks in and out and i'm back to my desktop. I have a good video card (above requirements) and more than enough ram and great CPU.

What can i do?

O i forgot to mention:

Sometimes when it takes me back to my desktop, my background disappears, it becomes color only. Maybe that will help?

I installed the Direct X 9.0C. And it didn't even install, it just took me to the "instalation complete" screen. I thought there was something wrong, so i downloaded from Microsoft, same result.

Not yet but my friend has a weaker pc than me, and he plays the game just fine without any patches. I'll try them, but it should 100% work without them. I'm guessing its something else.

My ram is good.

Ok, more info:

I have Windows xp media center edition, and when i installed the game it wanted me to install something called "Windows Media Format 9" and i did. Maybe that rings a bell?

You're on the wrong forum, friend. Go to technical support or software, I'm not sure which. What I am sure of is that this does not belong on ATOT 😛

But as an OT comment, Rome: Total War is a great, great game.

I heard its good too.

Ok i uninstalled, and on the Readme before installation this is the list of video cards:

ATI(R) Radeon(R) 8500
ATI(R) Radeon 9000
ATI(R) Radeon 9500
ATI(R) Radeon 9600
ATI(R) Radeon 9700
ATI(R) Radeon 9800
All Nvidia(R) GeForce(R) 3 and higher

I have an ATI Radeon x300, 128mb... It should work right?

Yeah, an X300 would be somewhere in the middle of the pack there.

Do you have other 3d games that work? Any instability problems with other games?

Yeah my other games work.

Maybe its because for ATI, i can only have the cards listed. Because i don't see a "and higher" after the ATI cards.
