For those of you having trouble with this issue, go to gamecopyworld.com and sift through the fileforums or check out this site.

Also, for those of you running Nforce mobos, make sure your drivers are up to date. I just updated my driver and that solved the "insert CD 1 and restart program" issue.

No virtual drives or burning software runing. No "region free" apps either. I've got Norton anti virus and ghost running. Plus the expert tools for my vid card and volume from my sound card. Thats it.

For grins and giggles, do you have another ROM to try the disc in?

Couple years ago I had a bad Return to Castle Wolfenstein disc, regular CD-ROM could get past the bad part, but my CD-R/W did.

Another thing you could try is a ' No CD crack ' from Game Copy World if the is one made for Rome: Total War.

First off, i do not condone downloading of games; buying a game is what should be done.

However...

I love how when one buys the game...half the time it doesn't install properly/won't run...& if one downloads it, it works great.

Methinks this is not good for the gaming industry.

All their anti-crack crap is not helping anything.

I ended up cracking Doom III after I bought it. Both games are Activision. Hmmmmm. makes you think. checked gamecopyworld. Think this games needs to be out a bit longer before a crack comes out. If I recall, the customer support for Doom III did absolutely nothing. One response, then closed my ticket and never responsed again. Gad I love supporting the game industry sometimes. (note view may be skewed by slight sarcasm and bitterness.) :) No other tray to try the cd in. I've got a combo drive. Pioneer. Worked fine with all other games.

try runnign the game in safe mode (windows in safe mode i mean). and see what happens....

long shot, but perhaps will point at something else other then the game itself.

i use the no cd cracks constantly, with 400+ games in my collection they can kiss my a*s if they think i'm going to have the cd's sitting next to me all the time.

no, i don't play them all anymore obviously, but anything more then a handfull of cd's laying on my desk drives me nuts.

Yeah, about that. I've just blanked on how to get into safe mode. I remember back with 2000 you could do it through the task manager, or you could interupt windows start up. but I'm not seeing an option through both here. Or maybe its the 2 hours of sleep.....mmmmmm....sleeeep

sorry. At work now. No, I couldn't even get the game to attempt to start in safe mode. So no, it still doesn't work. Got a response from Activision (not that I'm keeping my fingures crossed with them) They just asked for some basic info, etc. If it takes them a day to respond for each email, I'll have probably found a no-cd before they even suggest anything to me. Here's hoping I can play this game soon....(mumbles to self)
