I've just finished some Doom3 Benchmarks, thought some of you may be interested.

System: A64 3000+/MSI K8T Neo/Reference 6800NU/1 GB Corsair CAS 2.5 (all stock speeds)
All benchmarks run on High Quality, which defaults to 8X AF.

6800NU .................................6800GT.............GT @ NU 325/700
10X7 4X8X 52.9fps .................64.3...........

12X10 0X8X 60.7FPS.................70.4..........62.8
12X10 2X8X 50.6FPS.................61.5..........52.0
12X10 4X8X 36.6FPS.................47.1........37.6

16x12 0X8X 46.9FPS..................57.6.......49.5
16x12 2X8X 38.4FPS................. 48.1.........40.0
16x12 4X8X 4.9FPS ..................35.7..........28.0

All benchmarks application controlled, everything on, nVidia 61.45 drivers set to "Quality".
I also tried controlling AA through the nVidia control panel and received the same results as controlling through the application.

As you can see, the 6800NU provides some serious 12X10 Doom 3 "bang for buck". My 6800GT arrives tomorrow, will repost these results in this thread using that card on Wednesday if anyone is interested in the difference.

The 6800GT also provides serious bang for the buck at Doom 3. IMO, the 6800NU is a great 12X10 Doom3 card, and the 6800GT is a great 16X12 Doom3 card.

nice benchies, the 6800 nu seems really attractive right now. are there any other reviews other than the firing squad one so i can see some more games?

That makes me really glad I went with a 6800NU for my new system! Now I just gotta hurry up and wait for it...

That is interesting. maybe its "fps== <61fps" (or the equivalent, whatever that may be in opengl.)

You are just trying to discredit my benches fanATIc! Die! Die! Die!

LOL, JK

It's a fair question so I went and benched 6X4 0X8X and got 83fps. I'm benching it by running timedemo demo1 1, which must not be capped.

(so it must be coincidence it landed on 60.7)

The coolest way to watch it by far is at 16X12 4X8X at 4.9fps. You can see still shots of everything that happens- the best is how a whole brain comes flying out of their heads.

Shhhh. It's only Doom 3 that counts, screw the rest of the games in the world.

Though why aren't you using performance AF? I see no point in running a Radeon without it due to negligible performance loss and huge IQ gain.

Why don't you run the timedemo so we have some apples to apples?

As far as "who needs a nVidia"- I guess the guy that wants to play Doom3 as well on a $300 card as your $500 card?

I'm confused by your post. Do you mean that we should use "performance" AF or "quality" AF? Because performance mode should *not* have a "huge IQ gain". I have a feeling you were mixed up when you posted that.

I like performance AF a lot. If you can enable quality AF that's great, but performance AF does give an IQ raise at almost no performance decrease. I see no reason not to use it.

To me at least the difference is quite noticable, though to someone else it might not be. Oddly enough I see little difference between performance and quality modes.

Well, High Quality turns on 8xAF automatically, so I'd assume Ultra runs at least 8xAF as well.

So, he's probably running at 1600X1200 4xAA/8xAF. I don't know why you'd need AA at that res, but hey I guess if it runs smoothly, all the better!

quality AF offers better IQ but a larger (not too significant) performance hit. I see a huge diff with performance vs. quality, so I only run quality. is that what you mean too?

I don't know what to tell you there Pete. I just tried playing from the same save game and they both looked pretty good. I've been playing with AA on because I noticed jags at the resolutions I was playing (12X10 and 11X8) but they're pretty small at 16X12. Sorry.

When I install my GT tomorrow I imagine I'll try 16X12 2X8X.

Here's some bench results I did with fraps while playing the first half hour of the game on my rig with a "9700" pro. Rig is listed below.

1024x768 High detail (includes 8xAF)
Min: 22fps
Average: 35fps
Max: 45fps

1024x768 Medium detail (0xAA/0xAF)
Min: 25fps
Average: 48fps
Max: 60fps

I know a lot of people are running 9700s/9800s/5900s, so this should help those users get some sort of an idea. Imps are mad scary :X

That's not as good as my 4.9fps at those settings Rent. ;)

I know. When I saw 4.9fps I was like NO WAY :Q I wish my card could do that :(

Ah well, maybe the GT I have arriving today will be a better 16X12 competitor.

9800 non pro -> 400/640 clocks.
1024x768 at medium quality, timedemo demo1

4 runs:
35.1
36.0 (MSN window opened, screws up OpenGL games)

3rd and 4th runs (the "real" results)
39.1fps in both

2500+M @ 133x17 (2266MHz)
1GB PC2100 @ 2.5-3-3-11
Sapphire 9800np overclocked
