rollerblade/skateboard/scooter, are they ok to use on wet pavement?

Are they made to withstand being used on wet ground bicycles can easily take?

I realized that about three days worth of riding in the rain took a toll on the bearings on my scooter. The rear wheel feels like a stepper motor when you spin it and the front wheel have a gritty feeling as you turn it.

It's probably from all that grime getting in the bearings. Bicycles would have the same problem except the bearings are farther off the ground.

I can only really speak for skateboards. With them you can skate on wet pavement, you just don't have the traction you usually do. So its much easier to wipre out. I skated for around 7 years and never had any trouble with bearings or anything from skating on wet pavement. On the other hand I didn't do it very often do to the slickness.

I never used to skate(board) in the rain, there was always a rumour that it was bad for your bearings. I guess I just didn't wanna spend more money on bearings at the time

yea, i've skated on wet pavement a lot, it's no big deal really. well, maybe the bearings would rust after being used a lot in wet weather but thats it.

Grit shouldn't get into your bearings anymore when it's wet than dry. Bearings are sealed, if water or grit got in the seal was shot anyway and you were in need of new ones soon no matter the weather. Other than being careful about traction, nothing wrong with using them on wet pavement.

Spray them with some WD40 for a quick fix, but they will dry out again soon. Taking the shields off and greasing them again is more effort then it's worth. They will blow sooner or later, just ride them until they die.

The bearings on my rollerblades have a c thing that can be contracted for servicing, but these bearings on scooter can't be serviced...

Spray them anyways, it will soak in through the cracks between the shield and the collar/outer ring. If you wanted to you could use a small punch or a nail set to get the shield off but as I said, its not worth it. Most time the shield gets too mangled to ever sit properly after being removed.
