A colleague of mine has joined a new roller derby team. The team has yet to name itself.
I figured ATOT could help name the team. Have at it.

My skates have gotten significantly more expensive since this picture:

Ours is boring, it's just called the Albany All Stars. The ref's name is Wellen Dowd though. :D

I was at one time one of the top ranked inline speed skaters (in my age group) in the US!

But that was almost 16 years ago. I miss it.

I still skate casually every now and then. I bought a really nice pair of quads about 3 years ago. They were pricey.. about $800.

What did you pay for those? Skates haven't changed much over the past 10 years. They do seem more expensive though. Boots and frames are all pretty much the same.. wheels and some bearings have advanced but that's about it.

I think as those are configured about 800 as well. Not completely sure because it has been a few years and many changes in between.

The laser plate wasn't strong enough for my 140Lbs body, so I changed those out to Roll Line Giotto's. Another 350, but I absolutely love that plate. Those are also the first generation Strokers which had some QC problems. Switched those out to some new generation red Shamans which are meh.

Interestingly enough, I'm kicked out of my local rink until July 14th because bringing alcohol into the building is setting a bad example for the kiddies, but I plan on building some new skates to celebrate. I've been debating between color schemes for a Reidell 951 Boot. I promise I'm not gay:

ps. Nice skates, I didn't imagine there would be someone on AT with the same passion as myself.

I'm 31 now. When I was 15 I was considered one of the best skaters in the US for my age group. It was an expensive sport though for my poor family and I stopped skating when I was 17.. My parents dropped almost $2k on a pair of inlines when I was 16. Custom frame (raps) and custom boot (simmons). They spent more on my skates than the car they bought me. I wish I wouldn't have stopped though. My athleticism fell apart after that.

I haven't really been in the market or keeping up. I did a little research and pretty much bought the 'best' stuff when I bought my quads.

I'd love to buy a new set of inlines though. I love some of the packages over at Bont.com

Some Raps stuff

And I thought spending $200 soccer shoes every year was crazy... and $900 ski boots.
