i tink he done go right over are heads dere.

If he's talking about the depleted uranium causing cancer ... well, if I were driving an Abrams in Iraq ATM, I'd be more worried about my immediate health.

Since when can you design DU? Since when was it used to "harden" Abrams tank "shells" (they're flechettes, BTW)?

From the article:
Depleted uranium - Designed to pierce heavy armour, it is used to harden M-1A Abrams tank shells and 30 mm rounds fired from A10 attack jets. Critics say depleted uranium, which was used in the 1991 Gulf War, Kosovo and Bosnia, causes cancer. US officials say it is not a health hazard.

Well, if you're on the receiving end of one I don't think cancer is going to be a concern.

I think they're really referring more to the troops handling the shells and such rather than those who might meet one close up and personal.

Depleted uranium will make a geiger counter go crazy AFAIK, although I don't know off the top of my head what kind of emissions we're talking about. It's also a toxic heavy metal so ingestion or inhalation of dust is a concern. Can anyone enlighten us further?
