Everybody I knew who listened to him happened to be really terrible with money. So of course they sent him money and endlessly listened to his property gospel bullshit.

Thankfully, I don't know anyone who listens to him (or at least admits it.)

By the way, none of the republicans stroking each other off right now will EVER lift a finger to help anyone in America. Once you're born you are on your own. They dont give a fuck about human life. They wanna regulate the uterus, and they are very good at it too. And all those miserable assholes will continue paying airfare so their girlfriends can fly down to Aruba and get legal safe abortions. And when they get caught they'll say "fuck you, got mine" and nothing will ever change.

I dunno if this is good or bad or sad or happy... but my (just turned) 21 year old son just texted and said "I want to get a vasectomy. I don't want to bring any kids into this dumb ass world"

*sigh*

It's not too late. It's June. The midterms are in November. Plenty of time for people to get riled up by this. This fucked up ruling's only silver linings is that it will motivate the Dem base, let's just see if it's enough to make a difference.

Rile up the base and do what?

GOP hasn't even been coy about the goals for 15+ years, yet here we are.

R's and I's be like:

PERFECT TIME FOR A NATIONAL DIVORCE.

We can't live with each other.

We will never change.

Do we really want to be at each other's throats every fucking day?

I had dinner with my friend last night who really keeps up with political stuff. He is a Democrat, progressive on some issues, moderate on others. Anyway last night Roe came up, I said it's done for. He said he can't be sure of that. I said no man, it's 100% done. He is perfectly aware the GOP are a fascist party now with few morals and values. And yet some part of him still thought they could not go that far. I'm like oh yeah, and they can go farther. And the next morning, boom.

My sister and I spoke about this last week, I said Roe was toast. She said they won't really do that. I said the same shit to her I told my friend last night. I called her this morning and told her the news, she wept. She has two young daughters (luckily in NJ, a sane state) but she wept for the women in this country.

A lot of Dems just don't realize how evil the GOP is I guess.

Few of my thoughts..

On one hand,

1. I'm open to some of these complex and divisive issues being decided at the state level when there is not a clear constitutional provision defining it as a right.
If MS wants to force all their incest babies to birth, well then that's their culture and democratically decided decision, I don't live there, and motivated women still have choices in other states. I hope they make men accountable for the unwanted pregnancies tho.

2. Democrats have rested complacently on judicial decisions for major victories, while religious conservatives have been highly motivated and working towards this for decades.

OTOH

I don't believe religious conservatives will stop here and respect Federalism, and are fully comfortable with authoritarian thinking and govt intrusion into personal affairs/rights (unless it's firearms.)

D party better wake up. This has been an obvious outcome for a very long time, but they've been completely ineffective at stopping it.

This is an interesting workaround that might be viable, but I suspect SCOTUS will just Calvinball their way to a decision that lets states ban abortion anyway.

Hope RBG is so fucking happy in her grave..

Obama gave her a chance to retire under him and replaced by a like minded judge. She said she wanted to make a statement by staying on the bench 30 years

Well now she has the biggest statement: dead & replaced by Trump's right wing judges!

RBG fucking sith lord!

I wouldn't be so hard on her for that.
Humans are emotional, irrational creatures. What choice did she have, to play politics with her own seat? Perhaps logical... but emotionally and ego damaging. And... should she have anticipated the outcome? Things have escalated rather quickly since 2016. In addition, what would the outcome have been? The Senate would have held back any appointment until Trump took office. We know this... because they did exactly that.

She was asked to retire while Democrats controlled the Senate so they could have confirmed whoever they wanted.

I agree with you that people aren't perfectly rational and so I have some sympathy for her. I remember she said having the work was comforting to her after her husband died, for example. That being said, she was made abundantly aware of the potential consequences of her choice and we put people in those positions of public trust to make decisions for the good of the country, even if they are hard. Her poor judgment here has led to the destruction of much of her legacy.

The opinions convince me more that it was a conservative who leaked the draft specifically to ensure Kavanaugh stayed on board. His concurrence is almost apologetic, and stresses what the ruling does NOT do to restrict abortion.

Another conservative (or maybe even one of his own clerks) thought he was going squishy and leaked the draft to box him in.

We have been told over and over again that women will not stand for this. Elections are coming. We will see.

In the meantime ... More pain, suffering and death, as intended. The brutal subjugation of women by the terroristic death cult that the Republican party has become.

He's still right though. The Reps march toward fascism has been advance, hold, advance, hold, slowly gaining ground for decades. The Dems have been completely reactionary, undoing limited damage but never pushing forward a positive agenda. As a result, we have R v W overturned.

Roe stood for 50 years, eh?
And in that time, no Congress passed legislation to uphold it.
That right there, indicates the precarious and contentious position it held.
It was not settled, because it could not be settled. It never made it into written law. Only Judicial Opinion.

Goes back to the dysfunction of this nation, being unable to hold elections with actual outcomes and legislative results. The biggest lie today is that Democrats hold power. They do not. Winning an election (2020) is not enough to hold power in America, and that right there is a tragedy waiting to happen.

Looking forward to a decision in the next few years that only state legislatures can approve medications.

This is what I told my wife too (she wasn't happy with my logic/reason...)

The decision has been around for 50 years and never codified into law making it always precariously easy to overturn and it was. Our complacency in "things are just working ok!" doesn't work. It's the same with "peaceful transfer of power" We saw how that "tradition" almost killed the country (and we're likely to face it again). When nefarious people and plotting and scheming against you and your beliefs, you can't just assume they aren't going to use every trick in the book to win - they don't care about "traditions" or what is "right", they just care about winning AT ALL COSTS.

Segment on CNN right now. Many large corporations in addition to cover abortion through their health plan, will now offer to cover travel costs out of state.

SCOTUS is on fire this week! finally, a court that is following the constitution!!
:beermug:
I am sorry to tell you this, but if I had enough lime light and money, I would file a case in SCOTUS, that this ruling violated a filling from the Roberts Court...... although I do not remember the name, that ruling said that murder is not a federal crime if it is not happening interstate, and such crimes are state level. That ruling also said it was unconstitutional for the Supreme Court to make a decision based solely on the reason of murder, when the term murder does not reference inter-state murder/serial-killing.

SCOTUS on fire? Hey look, we agree on something.

Luna what's it like to fail so completely at being an American? Being so clueless and obtuse, it's not an act with you is it? I wish you could understand how bad you traitors look to rational people.
FYI Waste Management is headquartered in Houston, Texas... the oil and Texas Republican Party headquarters. Looks like they are having a hard time cleaning in Houston.
