Unfortunately GOP has much more conviction and patience than your average compulsive American.

Right now any sort of organization that gives a shit about women and is planning a convention in *ANY* state waiting to trigger abortion laws should immediately cancel their events in that state. Move it to a state that isn't backwards as shit. I'm talking things like 30k+ people healthcare conventions in FL, TX, LA. GenCon in Indy that's 70k people. Major sporting events. Move them. Vote with your wallet.

Women in red states should just close shop on their reproductive organs. New suffrage is boycotting sex with men for the next couple years until this shit gets sorted out.

Federal funds for red state shitters should get shut off. Blue states prop up half the south and midwest. Fuck em.

You want a pull out method.

Pull out money.

I will admit, I do take some pleasure in seeing the protests outside Kavanaugh's house ... especially considering that SCOTUS declared protest buffer zones as unconstitutional.
Normally I don't like the idea of protesting in front of someone's house but since Kavanaugh is cool with it, the more the merrier.

This is a terrible suggestion. You just punish women who are poor and working hourly jobs and may already have their vote suppressed via voter registries or other GOP fuckery at state/local levels.
It's the same argument that was/is often used to justify sanctions against Iran/Russia - that it will force citizens to rise up and demand changes from the government.

It hasn't worked very well in Iran/Russia case - as in there has been no regime change yet. I don't think it will work very well for abortion either. There are states that decided not to expand medicaid yet still reliably vote Republican. People are so entrenched in their ways that they simply do not want to rock the boat for the fear of falling out whether it's rational or not.

Refusing sex is also laughable strategy. Any woman that is in a committed relationship with pro-choice male would just be punishing herself an her partner. A woman who is in a relationship with "pro-life" male probably sees this ruling as a good thing.

As far as cutting off federal funds, again, states that refused to expand medicaid are still reliably republican. Cutting off federal funds won't matter one bit.

To be honest, I think US future is grim. One would think voters will overwhelmingly vote anti-republican in 2022/2024, but I've been disappoinetd so many times over the past two decades that I just can't get my hopes up.

Dems have an agenda, they have a platform.
And no process to accomplish it.

Nationally the Repubs actually had NO PLATFORM WHATSOEVER IN 2020.
Let us be clear here: Republicans have a platform. They are just not telling it to us because it is terribly unpopular.
They also have a clear plan to accomplish it, and are doing so.

So Republicans can't destroy our democracy. But, you go on with your doom and gloom, then see how many Dems go to the polls. Defeatists!

There is a lot of people that vote democrat that are pissed off at the Party for letting this happen. They all feel that they voted these assholes in to keep just this sort of thing happening, and they failed. Instead they bickered amongst themselves about which companies should get rich. They refused to do what was needed to pass literally any reform, and while they were doing that the Republicans managed to accomplish their primary platform goal.

To most the Democrats are looking less then simply ineffective and more like keystone cops. Dancing around looking foolish while the crooks steal their wallets.
The Democratic party needs a reformation. They are currently useless. They are actually worse than useless, while they act incompetent the Republicans are getting results. Instead of reform we have gotten excuses. We need to let them know that excuses are not enough. The only way to do that is at the polls.

The idea here is that the Republicans are winning anyway. If we keep going the way we are they will eventually accomplish their every goal, but if we force a reformation in the Democratic party maybe in a decade or two they will actually accomplish something.

And sure the Republican might destroy or democracy, but let's face it they are going to do that anyway because the Democrats are not willing to stop them.

A year of investigations have revealed that the coup only failed because to many Republicans didn't really commit to it. Since those that did commit to it are not going to face any consequences, why would anyone not commit next time?

They didn't win everything. They won a razor-thin majority when a supermajority is needed to do anything.
And this is basically the best we can expect them to get. They are only going to lose seats from here.
Here is a prediction: If the Republicans find themselves in the exact same situation the Democrats are in now in 2024 they will still manage to pass nearly every one of their priority items.

They don't have any priority items except tax cuts which aren't subject to the filibuster.

They have priority items. Roe v Wade was one. There are others. They are just not telling us what they are.
The Republicans realized years ago that their platform was to extreme to be votes on in Congress where they have to defend their votes.
Instead they decided to just stack the judiciary and then deny they knew what they were doing.

You're right that controlling the judiciary is a priority of theirs but that's also not subject to the filibuster.

Outside of that they don't really have any priorities outside of deregulation, which also isn't filibusterable. Just look at what they did from 2017 to 2019 - they controlled everything and did basically nothing other than cut taxes for rich people and confirm judges. They didn't even really try outside of half-heartedly attempting to repeal the ACA and failing to get even 50 votes.

Republican judiciary does the actual conservative policy and the elected Rs just shrug like they didn't put all those people on the courts while babbling about "protecting the institution".

Bottom line. Don't stay home. Vote!!!! The rest is blah, blah, blah.

The only reason this isn't taking me by surprise is that I read a story at NYTimes online probably over 6 months ago about an old woman in the south who had first hand experience with women who died horrible agonizing deaths by virtue of back alley abortions whose prescience concerning politics was uncanny... she was NEVER WRONG, and she had declared that Roe v. Wade was going to be overturned soon. I figured, hey, if she says so, who am I to doubt it? Goddamn. I still hope to hell it doesn't happen. The villainy of this is beyond anything I can remember in America and I've seen a lot. I mean Sir Matthew Hale cited 6 times in Alioto's opinion! That guy sent women to burn at the stake! o_O

The right in Texas is already proposing to make it a criminal act to leave Texas to get an abortion. As well as making it a crime to donate or be an organization that helps women go out of state to get abortion.

What if you leave Texas on a sight seeing trip, discover you're pregnant (SURPRISE!), decide to get an abortion and then come back Texas?

You are a Texas resident. You get the electric chair. ZAP!!

. . .

Just do not go back, ever. Start a new life in a blue state.

Education is limited by the intelligence of the student. A whole bunch of people are over on the left side of the bell curve.
The bottom line is if we want better government we need better people. The hurdle there is the people that would be the best at governing don't want anything to do with it.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
So you admit you are severely limited because of your intelligence?

All jokes aside: education is more limited to the teaching methods being used. Since most teachers now days are mandated by state and local governments to teach one way, many students suffer. Every one can learn and be taught if you find the method in which they understand. That doesn't mean everyone will get straight A's but it does mean they can learn the essence and basics of any subject given enough time and again, using a method they understand. This also effects how people try to educate themselves because they don't really know or understand how their brain works and are only exposed to the method used by the teachers, so they even struggle trying to learn on their own.

"Intelligence" is over-rated as a factor. More than anything, from what I've seen, barring severe physical trauma or very obvious disability, education is limited by motivation, incentives and character traits, all of which are in turn dependent on circumstances and formative experiences. And the greatest of these is motivation.

Education "limited" by intelligence, that is bonkers, sure everyone is not gonna grok relativity or the minute inner workings of quantum mechanics, but the idea that there is not a broad spectrum of material available for you to better yourself, whatever level you are at ... I mean, common.

Heck, I sometimes wonder (and this is not a fully thought-through idea at all) if it's not a zero-sum game. That is, for everything you learn, you lose something. Education is a kind of migration.

Ohio has issues?

It could come to this... For real.

Ohio Law Mandates Rape Victims Send Thank You Notes For Gift Of Parenthood
1652184819402.png

COLUMBUS, OH—Eliciting both outrage and acclaim from each side of the political aisle, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) signed a new law Friday mandating that rape victims send thank you notes to perpetrators for the gift of parenthood. “Parenthood is God’s gift to these women, so it’s only polite that sexual assault victims rush out and write a heartfelt note the moment they discover they’re pregnant,” said state Rep. Jean Schmidt (R), sponsor and author of the new law, who emphasized that victims should mail notes no later than three days after receiving a life-changing positive pregnancy test, lest they risk coming across rude and ungrateful to their rapist. “Face-to-face interaction is preferred, but at the very least a nice greeting card is required. Throwing in a gift basket wouldn’t be overdoing it either. I recommend all Ohio women keep some stationery and postage stamps on hand, just in case, since you never know when you might need them.” At press time, Schmidt added that any pregnant children writing thank you notes should be sure to keep their handwriting neat.
