If he's stuck inside the nightstand, then I'd get rid of any food you have in there and try to starve him out. Admittedly, this might produce a less than desirable outcome (i.e. you now have a dead rotting mouse stuck in your nightstand stinking up the room).

i put peanut butter on the trap, he sprung the trap and walked off with a tasty treat.
Do it again. He is getting cocky.

Did you try putting a sticky trap where the whole is followed by surreounding the baited trap with more sticky traps?

Well i plugged the whole, he cant get back to it, but there is a real trap and like three sticky ones spread throughout the nightstand. This thing is only like three feet by four feet or something, its not that big and he still wont get caught.

sticky trap + russian dressing.

it worked for me. 5 mice down in a pat.

you can also try bread.

note that mice do not like mustard.

Foolproof mouse/rat trap:
2 gallon plastic bucket. drill a pair of 1/4" holes in the top edge opposite each other.
film canister, punch a small hole in the cap and the end.
Straighten out a hangar.
put wire through hole in bucket, then through film canister, then out the other hole.
Now you should have a film canister that can spin freely on a wire axle, crossways near top of bucket.
smear some peanut butter on canister.
put about 3" of water in bucket.
make a simple ramp to get things started, a stick to the top rim of bucket. It will get knocked down, but that does not stop the rest of the mice. They try and walk out that wire, the thing turns, they drown. It keeps working I suppose till it gets enough bodies in it to prevent drowning:p
Every time I have used it, mice/rats are gone in one day. Just dump in toilet and flush.
