Why compete?
My parents are happy with the cars they drive and our family has already agreed that in a few years, we'd like to buy a bigger house rather than a $400K car. So Cal housing bubble is going to burst soon and we'll buy a bigger house after that.
edit: I don't whose Maybach this is going to be (wife or husband) but they didn't exactly have awesome cars to begin with. Wife drives a Toyota Corolla wagon from 1994 or something and husband drives a Ford Excursion (I guess contractors have to lug around a lot of things)
