I read that. Apparently, Ducati flew a bunch of press to Italy and had them ride the new Monster 1100 EVO. They probably are filtering into dealerships in Italy and maybe on the east coast of the US but there are still none at my local dealerships. They are still saying mid May before they get any and I've called Ducati Newport Beach, Spectrum Ducati, and Moto-Forza in Escondido (this is the place I visited as it is only about 15 miles from me). I've been to Spectrum Ducati but only talked to them on the phone about this bike.

I was at my nearest Ducati dealership this past weekend (east coast), and the manager there also said they wouldn't get any 1100 Evo's until mid-May. Apparently they haven't been "announced" here in the states yet (which should happen early in May).

I got a few emails from local dealers about the Diavel Launch party and pre-order, but not much fanfare for the Monster 1100 EVO. Dealers are Pro Italia, NewPort, and Brea's Triumph/Ducati.

Live your life in fear. Be sure and let me know how that works out for you. ;)

Honestly, if I feared dying or getting into an accident I probably wouldn't ride but that doesn't mean I take extreme risks or don't wear proper gear. I'm not a crazy rider and I do wear proper gear.

In my opinion, it's not that you'll kill yourself riding the bike, someone else will kill you instead.

We don't have much control over it as motorists, but when it happens in a bike, you don't have much of a chance as surviving.

There are more wonderful things in life than riding a motorcycle in my book.

Such as...?

The only things I would put up there with riding a motorcycle is snowboarding on some fresh powder, skydiving, and sex.

They did have a Diavel at Motoforza when I stopped in there.

Okay, you've convinced me. I'll sell my bike and never ride again...

Let's see,

Friends, Lovers, Family, Careers, hobbies, safer activities...

Sky diving seems rather dull, I'd rather fly.

Excellent! :D Well, you'll eventually stop riding when you have more to lose than to gain by adrenaline, I just hope you do it before you get hurt.

You're afraid, we get it. The rest of us aren't afraid, why is that so hard to understand? Live a quiet life if that's what makes you happy, but don't try to convince us that your fear is the only rational choice.

Bikers know why dogs like to hang their head out the car window.

I already have a family, career, other hobbies...I've had these things for quite some time actually.

You do realize that in you have to fly to skydive right? Man, I can't think of anything more exciting and scary than jumping out of an airplane. I'm not up for that though...

Jules,

if you would rather enjoy an 1100S, my 'local dealer' is offering them OTD for a little under 11K now.

It would be 6-800 to ship it to cali, but I know the larger dealer in Indy is still demanding MSRP for them which is obviously a few g's higher

I've ridden the 1100S and found one thing I didn't like about it. At idle it pours a ton of heat off the left side just below the seat due to the way they route the exhaust I suspect. On my test ride I was idling at a construction zone for a couple minutes and it was uncomfortably hot, like almost burning my left inner thigh hot! Other than that I loved it.

I suspect the 1100 EVO, with its rerouted exhaust will be much better. Plus an extra 5hp and ABS/traction control is welcome (despite these additions, weight did not increase over the 1100S model). The 1100S has the Ohlins suspension of course but Ducati improved the suspension on the 1100 EVO over the straight 1100 so it should be fine for me.

Obviously you have never skydived. It's up there with awesome sex. And yes, you are flying, you're flying your body.

I have a great job/career in construction management but I don't find it more enjoyable than any of the hobbies I listed.

Safer activities...like what? Watercolors? Knitting?

You can feel free to live your life in fear while the rest of us enjoy everything that is offered.

I think the problem is that you're not realizing what I'm actually afraid of... which is losing the stuff in life worth living for.

For most us, it's not adrenaline.

You think we all ride for the adrenaline rush? I ride because I enjoy it...not because I'm courting death at every corner.

Fact is you could slip in the shower and die tomorrow. We're all terminal pal, it's just a matter of how and when. My Father rode motorcycles for decades and you know what killed him? Complications from diabetes...you might want to think about that the next time you walk into a McDonalds.

BTW-I think there's a Boy Scout troop or church choir somewhere that needs your services...please go bother them.

I'm not anti bike, and feel that people have the right to do as they please. Just looking at this link though shows in 2008 for 100,000,000 miles traveled bikers were 36 times more likely to take a dirt nap than cars. Yes its more dangerous, duh. what would one expect. If someones fine with the risk, which they'd have to be or else why would they be riding, why would anyone care. I had a gpz back in the day before wife and kids, it was fun as hell to ride. I just couldn't do it now given the circumstances.

Bunch of pussies on this forum. There are men with families who go out and risk their lives every day just to make a few bucks. Fuck...do something for yourself. Risk is part of the game.
