Recently I helped out my friend install Windows 2000 from scratch and all the stuff was setup for one thing: his modem. Its not an old modem, and the website still makes drivers for it, but the Rockwell HCF PCI 56k Flex modem wont show up in the hardware profiles.

After seeing this, I went to the website and installed the drivers. Ok... they got installed and show up in my Device Manager tab now with the latest version installed. After i restart, I come back and notice that it says the device is not responding yet the drivers are installed and it worked before on Windows 98: SE. Heck, it still does this with the latest SP2 for Windows 2000.

Any help here? ;(

I had a similiar problem with a Rockwell combo card.
Try these steps. First, remove the card from the pc, then boot up. Next, remove the Rockwell software in "Add/Remove Programs". Check Device Manager to make sure it's not there, if it is, then remove it. Goto "Phone and Modem Options" in the Control Panel and remove it or all modems from the "Modem" tab and reboot. Make sure all instances of the modem has been removed, then power down and install the card. When Windows boots, it should recognize the new hardware and prompt for drivers to be installed. DO NOT POINT THE SETUP TO THE NEW DRIVERS. Just let it tell you that no suitable drivers were found. Next, run the .exe you down loaded from Rockwell. It should unzipp and create a folder or run through the setup by itself. If it unzips, then run the setup.exe from the folder. After you do that, Windows will run through Add/Remove Hardware and should install the correct driver.

Let me know if this works.
I had spent hours working on the dumb thing. It works as expected now.

If you can't find the appropriate drivers, check out driverguide.com. They have an extensive list of drivers you can use.
