are the new line, the ones with the new design, any better than the older ones??

im about to order either the 600a4 or the new line equivalent, anyone know any major difference?
 
Hey man.. the design just changed .. I work at a computer/stereo store and one of the stereo guys said all that changed is the looks..

hmm, i have infinity kappa 3way 6x9 in the back, max 100 watt rms...and infinity kappa component 6-1/2" in the front...max 90 watt rms (i think)...

so i wanted a four channel amp cuz im running low on spending cash....

thought 4 ohms sounded better than 2?

edit Ohms has nothing to do with sound quality. If the load you're putting on the amp is 4 ohms, then you need an amp that is 4 ohm stable. There's more to it than what I posted, but that is the gist.
 
I was thinking about getting that to drive my midranges. AutoTek is a good midlevel brand. I've had no personal experiance with them, but I've heard good things. I've ordered stuff from Sounddomain before with no problems as well. From the specs, it should be a solid amp and it's looks are pretty smooth.
 
for most car audio amplifiers, 4 ohms will sound cleaner than 2 ohms. Almost every amp I've seen has less THD at 4 ohms.
 
Looks like a decent deal. Not familiar with the Autotek, but if you can find some reviews on em to tell you what other peeps think of em, go for it.
 
You'll want a 4 ohm setup I imagine, tell us how you plan to wire your speakers though 🙂 I assume you want one channel to feed one speaker right?

The Rockford fosgates have a very good reputation and usually put out a bit more power than they are rated at too as a bonus! I think the new ones include like a bass level lead remote off the amp. Whoopie. If you want one of the older ones let me know, I've got a link at home to a dealer with good ratings who seels teh 75x4 amp for like $220 I think.
 
The RF will include a certificate with it's rated power. However, it's kind of hyped up. It shows the power when the amp is driven at around 13-14 volts at 65% efficiency. In your car, it won't perform that well.
 
The older fosgates are much better than the newer ones. Autotek and Hifonics are both good brands...i'd take them over the newer fosgates. 75x4 for 300 bucks shouldn't be too hard to find. If ur really strapped for cash..wire em in parallel and then run em off a two channel.
 
found them for 125 a piece here...im assuming they have a switch or some setting to differtiate from 2/4 ohm..or is it all automatic? grr audio terms...spent a year learning all the computer ones...

yeah one wire to each channel...gotta think about rewiring cheap stock wiring. awe man, this is gonna be hell on the little civic's battery...great capacitor time.
 
Your speakers are 4 ohm. If you wired them all in series, you'd have a 16 ohm load. If you wire 2 of them in parallel, you'd have a 2ohm load. There isn't a switch that changes the load. It's all in how you wire your speakers.
 
the old ones like the TRANS-ANA's were greatly underrated. Some of their best amps to date. They sell for quite a bit if you can find them in good shape..
 
Those speakers are 4 ohms each. If you want to run a wire from each channel of the amp to each speaker (the way I'd do it) you want an amp that can run at 4 ohms. The 2 ohms, 1 ohm stuff you're really only going to want if you're wiring them funky like with subs or something. It also wouldnt hurt to run new wires, you'd get a nice clean signal. A capacitor isn't what you need either. A capacitor stores a charge like a battery and delivers it to make up for the lack, you'd want a bigger alternator to generate more current in the first place. Try it out first though, I don't think you'd really need to upgrade the alternator, it isn't THAT stressful on the electrical system until you start to get into insane amounts of power like subs suck up. Get the older rockford.
 
I second the vote for Hifonics amps. I'll be running one at 450Wx1@2ohm for my sub and another at 100Wx2@4ohm for my fronts. Just waiting for the front amp to get in then I finish off my system. Great prices and better sound than RF. If you want to risk getting them off e-bay, you can get some awesome prices.

As a warning, DO NOT order from soundhabits.com. Bunch of rip offs. Ordered an IDQ12DVC4 from them 2 weeks ago. Charged my CC, then they tell me it's on backorder, they're waiting for their IDQ shipment to come in. Finally got them to give me a refund, says it'll go through in 7 days. From now I'll do everything in my power to get people to stay away from soundhabit.com. Order from mmxpress.com, the owner frequents the newsgroups and gives great advice.
 
Soundhabit, woofersetc are two known bad places to order from. Sounddomain, tms-electronics, and mmxpress are good places. Make sure you call to make sure an item is in stock before you order.
