Looked up the case here in Bakersfield, CA BB. $119.00🙁
I wonder how many BB stores in Cali have it for the $50 something price..

I've heard that more stores have dropped to $48. recheck your nearby ones ASAP as they tend to sell quickly at that price.

Should be an exact fit for the RF case ? 'Zep would know fer sure ...

Word !

Thanks for the info ... saved me some $/frustration. But where in your cage review(s) are the dimensions to which you made reference ? I couldn't find this info, but then my eyes ain't what they used to be either ...

Cany anyone price math the Brooklyn Best Buy or any of the Manhattans ones? I've heard a few of the Jersey ones are selling them for $50? I don't know but the ones here are going for $120 🙁

MR,

I know I'm long winded, you probably just gave up before you got to it.

Quote from my review of the Silverstone CFP51:
. I owned the Lian Li EX-34 for about a month and got rid of it - first because it couldn't handle the "thrumm', and second because it really wasn't designed for universal application. The bezel is a bit too large in all directions (particularly height), so you need a case with generous bezel openings (unless you want to go sans bezel, which is possible with the L-L too). And the mounting screw holes aren't to the standard measurement set by the optical drive industry for so many years (standard = 2-1/16" from the front of the bezel to the center of the first mounting holes, EX-34 = 2-3/8" - why, tell me why!), so the bezel will be left protruding from the case bezel a bit in some cases that lack flexible drive mountings. Plus the overall length of the thing (8-5/8" to the end of a mounted drive) is significantly longer than the other two discussed here - and even with that, the drives protrude from the back of the cage about a half inch. The drives fit entirely within the other cages unless you have adapters on them (I do on one of my SCSIs), e.g. 80 to 68 pin on SCSI or PATA to SATA on IDE drives, etc.

The RF has slots rather than screw holes for optical mounting, so there will be no problem using one in the bottom bays. But as I mentioned in one of the RF threads, you will have to remove one of the cross-braces from the RF's 5" rack to install any 4-drive cage. Drilling out the pop rivets and taking the entire rack out of the case will be the easiest way to accomplish that. Then put it back in using M3 screws (holes are already drilled and tapped). The ease of removing the 5" bay cage is not as great as I thought - six more rivets at the top. Still easier than trying to remove a crossbrace with the cage in place.

The EX-23 will fit w/o any modding.

Mucho thanks Zepper !!

I was actually looking at just the EX-23 anyways, as I only have a few drives (I don't collect pron ... my motto there is more along the lines of the old song, "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing, Baby" 😀😀).

Then again, I own a Dremel "Variable Speed Multipro Super Kit", plus have access to a state-of-the-art Tool & Die / Machining department at work, so I'm not adverse to modding myself. My main reason for looking at the Lian Li cages was for the nice-looking bezel, but I DID read in your cage reviews that they were a little lacking in that area too, so I may wait for your beloved new Silverstone cage. Sure hope it's quality is better than the TJ-10 case I had though. Emphasize "had". Front door construction quality/fit was abysmal. Guess I was spoiled by the old CM ATC's.

For now, I'm concentrating on the PSU mounting system though ... IMHO, the weakest part of the RF case's design.

Again, thanks for the info ... in fact, ALL of the great info, in this, and the other, RF case-related threads !

are there any BB stores in the nor cal bay area at this price?

emeryville had them for $48. Not sure if there are any left.

The BB site shows that store is out of stock 🙁

Has anyone tried the other stores listed with zip 94041?

Thanks

$60 in NW DC

edit: Nevermind, I was given the wrong price check, another local store does have it for $50. Gonna try tonight.

I may try to mod mine to mount the PSU upside down so the 120mm fan faces upward.

'Saw two on the high, storage shelves in Deptford, NJ, BB, but 'didn't see a price and the sales staff were busy.

It's a lovely box, but... 'guess I'm jealous of those who can figure out how to FILL a full-size case these days: my last full-size' moved out (15+ years ago) when I discarded my SCSI drives and other olde discs I'd kept running after they were obsolete in speed & size. Nowadays, everything I use [1.2TB. 45%-OC'd C2D, wireless, HDTV tuner, etc.] runs nice & cool in a uATX box. 'Wish this were uATX form factor, but a lovely find for those who can use it!!

A store in Kingston (up the Hudson a bit) was selling them cheap. If you can't find something, PM me as I have a couple of extras I'm selling for $85. and should be able to keep the shipping reasonable as I'm in the Finger Lakes area.

Went and picked up a case from the Gaithersburg, MD store for $47.xx + tax.

They still have a few left high up on the shelf. Seems to be the only store in the DC area that isn't selling em for $119.

Got one for $47.99 before taxes.

Sales person by the computer section looked up the price on the best buy website which lists it at $119.99 and quoted this price to me.
Went to the customer service center and gave them the SKU number and looked up in their database which lists it at the clearance price of $47.99 and paid for the item right there.

I had the upgrade bug recently and my older mid tower case was feeling the pinch on room. This deal came at the perfect time for me. Picked up a case here for about $50 and I'm loving it. Awesome case indeed. Right now, I'm spending my weekend modding and assembling 🙂 Switching out the front 120mm fan for my 180mm fan which means a little drilling and cutting but nothing major.

Only thing I miss is the lack of a clear side panel, which I think I'm going to do up anyhow. Just need to find a place around town that does custom laser or water cutting on metal sheets. I don't even want to try it with a dremel. Even thinking about it I know I would go though 20+ cutting wheel if I tried.

I seriously am loving this case though. Thanks to the OP!
