This case is not perfect anyway.

True, but it's $48 plus tax vs. $250+ ...

And, IMHO, no case is perfect (well, maybe the old CoolerMaster/ATC's were close). As an example, I bought one of the Silverstone TJ-10's a while back, the "Cadillac" of cases, supposedly. What a total POS, IMHO. Fit and finish was pathetic for a $320 case. Pivot/hinged edge of the front door "rubbed" badly every time you opened/closed it, gouging up the case edge from top to bottom. Thought I had just gotten a bad one, as the edge looked to have been radiused by hand. Returned the case and got a replacement. Second unit was even worse than the first and it went back too. I think NewEgg still hates me over this. 😀

Hard drives sitting in the bays barely have room for the SATA power cables. You need the right angle plugs unless you want to put stress on your connector and drive.

Did you mount the drives per the manual ?

There is also no room for air from the fan to flow around the hardrdrives.

Not exactly sure what you mean here ? ... other than possibly that the 2nd drive cage is butted right next to the front cage (which is next to the fan). Then again, first thing I did was remove one of the cages as I have no need for more than 3 HDDs in a system. My drives are happy (ie. cool).

You can only mount the powersupply one way, and if you have a 120mm fan PSU, the fan will face down

Thought we had already covered this, see mine and Zep's posts above on 3/12/08. Bottom-line, as long as you don't have the case sitting on carpet you should be OK.

You should post where you are located first. Maybe someone can point to a nearby Best Buy that sells it for less. You can then have the manager call that store to verify so your refund of the difference can be authorized.

In my case the Kingston, NY store is about an hour and a half to two hours from the Middletown, NY store where they price matched it and sold it to me.

EDIT: Here is the Best Buy price guarantee language:

http://www.bestbuy.com/olspage...3603302&id=cat12098#01

Since this is not officially listed as a clearance item, they should refund you 100% of the price difference including tax. They list a "reasonable distance" as the criterion for a "nearby" store.

2nd EDIT: Apparently they kind of scammed me at the Middletown store. I called the Kingston store this morning and they told me the price was $47.99 and not $71.99 so I will be going back to the Middletown store to do the same thing you are trying to do.

Thanks. I didn't realize it was "reasonable distance" only. I've called a lot of stores in the Houston area and all are $120. I'll try the few remaining ones.

in case of good deals i recommend to not call, lot of times bb employees dont know about these deals and when alerted they grab it themselves, the best way is to go to the nearby store and have them look up the sku number, their system pulls up inventory at nearby stores along with the price at the nearby stores

Hey Dorkenstein,

I'll be selling mine when I finish reviewing it - may have it done by Monday. I'm in the Finger Lakes area of NY so shipping to ME shouldn't be too bad - unfortunately the RF is underweight for its size so shipping cost bumps up - dang anorexic cases... Maybe I need to weight it down with something to bring shipping in line. 😉 I paid ~ $80. for it with stx. Another ATer had expressed interest, but he's not keeping in touch... So PM me if you're interested.

FYI, be prepared for a shock on shipping costs. I too, have an extra one of these cases, and the shipping is based on "dimensional weight" vs. actual weight. The box size is 28x27x12 and using a variety of weights up to a max. of 20lbs., the cost to ship varied little at all. US Postal is the cheapest, followed by DHL Ground, FedEx Ground, and finally UPS Ground (the most costly).

Zep : You do any fishing ? My bro and I head up your way every year for smallmouth action ...

MR,
. Nope, I haven't done any fishing at all since I was a kid. I may get a license this year and try to catch some rainbows - they are tasty.

Yup, dimensional weight on the RF is 54.xxx pounds, so you could ship about 28 pounds of extra stuff in there at no extra charge... The actual gross weight of it is 25.xxx pounds, box and all. that is based on the cubic feet of a semi trailer vs the weight limit for the rig. Did you see the AOpen case that folds down flat for shipping - very clever and makes optimum use of the cubes. There is a video demo out there of one being assembled. The demo is just a little bit down this page: http://global.aopen.com/products_detail.aspx?Auno=2534
And the 501s are some of the smallest ATX cases out there at under 16" tall and under 18" deep.

Dang, I never noticed/looked up the actual "dimensional weight", just saw the notice that that was how the ship weight was being calculated.

I can see the news headline now ... "Mexicali drug cartels using cheap computer case to smuggle 12 kilos for free" ... 😀😀

re: that AOpen case. Nice concept. Sorta the IKEA of cases as far as packaging.

The store in Beaumont, TX has it for $47.99. The lady at the BB nearby said they can't pricematch, but I'll print the policy and bring it with me

Edit: Got price match. Sweet!

I' m glad the stores near me all have it at $119 and also the few people that down this case; it makes it easier to resist this case and replace my P180.

I'll help you lust after this case again ... 😀 Most of the so-called "downs" were readily/easily refuted in this thread. Sure, for an additional $200 or more you can get a "slightly" better version that says Lian Li on the door, instead of RF, but wouldn't you rather have that extra $200 for other hardware instead ?

Follow up:

I drove back to the Middletown store and after calling the Kingston store, they gave me the difference so it cost me $47.99 + the gas wasted from the manager scamming me the other day. She wasn't there this time fortunately or she might have stonewalled me to save face. Can't complain really as this is a really good deal for a nice (albeit HUGE) case.
Still no "smoking hot" Pauline working there as that other poster "imagined".

There were 3 or 4 left at the Macon, GA BB yesterday. Was priced clearance at 70 something. Too bad I didn't need a case. 🙁

It appears that I have an extra one of these cases ... had a couple "nibbles" so I did not post it before. Would recommend only to those located in the Midwest part of the country due to the ship costs. PM if interested. If no inquiries from this thread in the next day or so, I'll list it in FS ...

I have been eyeing this case for a couple weeks. Just wasn't sure if it was for me, or if I should wait on a good deal for a P182 or 900. Went to BB @ Amarillo, TX. and the price = $87.99. Got someone to look up the RSS and was able to price match to $47.99. Used $50 in rewards zone gift cards and got this awesome case for free!! If you trying to decide on this case or not - just do it! At the very least you can return it! To me this case is a work of art, and I really like how big it is. I can't see ever outgrowing this thing! I can't believe I got such a good deal on a Lian-Li. Thanks guys for all your info here!

As of the RSS check in Atlanta yesterday, for the $47 price, there were a few cases in Macon (don't remember the exact number), 2 in Augusta, 6 in Savannah.....a couple of the BB's in Atlanta have the case for $47, but the vast majority in the area have it listed at its full retail $119 price while some (a very few) had it at $72......only two or three in the immediate ATL area were at the $47 price.

Oh.....forget the Buckhead store. They had two and I bought both.

Got to say, for a $50 case, it is an excellent case, albeit large, but who is complaining about a full tower's size when you know exactly that is what it is?

And the build, while not with all the "extras" Lian-Li gives internally, is still a step above the vast majority of all the other cases out there....and for the price, it's a win!

Now, what to do with the extra I have? One is going to replace a smallish Gigabyte mid-tower for more breathing room.....

The other was a possible replacement for a Gigabyte 3D Aurora, but since that case is set up with watercooling, I'm getting lazy and really don't want to break down the loop and reset the whole thing up.

Guess ebay is the answer? Or simply return it to BB.....I guess.

Try Craigslist - could be someone there who has been sleeping thru all this RF hubbub - maybe make a few bucks. Ought to be an easy sell at $100. bucks if you hit the right person at the right time.

I flipped the rear fan and the side fan around to blow into the case. I figured I might as well blow onto the motherboard, and it made no sense to have 3 outlet fans (including PSU) and only one intake.

I doubt there will be any cooling difference

The grill on the side fan (on the back panel of the case) is so restrictive that it is hardly worth bothering with unless you frag the grill.
