Rockbox on iHP-120

I'm new to both the iRiver iHP-120 and Rockbox, but have had iRiver SlimX IMP-350's for years and am pretty familiar with the SlimX feature set.

I just bought an iHP-120 and it should come in a week or so. People say it's great with Rockbox, and I'm trying to find out about that but haven't found much info.

Rockbox is evidently open source and there's a lot of different flavors depending what device you use it with. Also, it's in constant development, so I figure there might be issues with what build you use. Seems to be rebuilt daily!

Questions:
1. What software is Rockbox written in?
2. Concerning Rockbox for the iHP-120, does it completely replace the iRiver feature set or does it just add to it?

I may well get into the recording aspects (I'm certain to), but initially I'll be using the device to listen to MP3's, mostly very large ones (in terms of length, up to 3+ hours). I'll also rip albums and songs, etc.

Guidance appreciated!

According to the Rockbox web site:

Rockbox is a complete rewrite and uses no fragments of any original firmwares.

Thanks. Hey, in 22 posts you hit 20,000!

I wonder if it supports all the iHP-120 features. How can I find out what it supports and how? I suppose I can always flash the iHP-120 firmware back. I'm trying to get a feel for this. Isn't there some place with some documentation on what I can expect?

Ah, so when I turn it on I can decide by pressing a button whether I want to use the Rock box or iRiver feature set. I presume that's what you mean.

I'm thinking about using this for my H320 since it allows for FLAC support.

Oh, I like that replay gain support feature (normalization). I presume that means I can my my MP3's play with the same (overall) volume. On my SlimX I sometimes play MP3's that are simply not loud enough. That appears to be solved with Rockbox on the iHP-1xx.

Edit: Also, FM recording and bookmarking! Woohoo!

Edit2: Here's one I really want: Variable step / accelerating ffwd and rwd. It really is awful trying to get to the middle of a 3 hour MP3 when FF and REW only support maximum 6x (SlimX limit).
