Rock songs about daughter or child growing up

I've been asked to work on a video project that shows the photos and video of a girls life for a graduation gift from her family. The problem is the music selection. She apparently listens to rock and they only knew country songs! So I'm trying to identify rock songs that talk about having a child and them growing up or things of that nature. Creed - Arms wide open was the first one that popped into my head. The only problem is it sings about "him" - meaning his son. This is for a girl. So i need songs that are non-gender specific or about daughters :)

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

You could go semi old-school with the graduation song, "Friends Forever" by Vitamin C.

"As we go on.... we remember
All the times we.... had together.
And as our lives change.... come whatever
We will still be..... friends forever."

I may have to turn in my man card, but I used to like her back in 2000. Remember "Smile"? :)

Elvis Presley - In the Ghetto, was the first that came to mind with the thread topic, but after reading your post... ;)

Landslide by Stevie Nicks (spelling?)

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life

Well, Ive been afraid of changing
cause Ive built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
Im getting older too

Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring it down

I actually like the idea of the graduation song. It plays well with her high school year and prom pics.

Keep the songs coming!

Sweet Child = The subject of the song is lead singer Axl Rose's then-girlfriend and eventual wife, Erin Everly

I'd like to keep the songs newer. I'm not sure she'd appreciate a Floyd or Zeppelin song - even though I would..lol

Well the Lifehouse song seems to be about the guy's girlfriend.

I'm trying to keep away from songs about how growing up sucks :D It's more of a "I love you here's your life and what we did together" from a mother to daughter.

Well it doesn't have to be "rock" exactly, but something other than country. John Mayer is good - I'll check it out.

I was even thinking songs by maybe Ben Folds Five or bands like them.

To me the Lifehouse song is more about maturity in general; but there's a number of interpretations. I actually did a little digging and I'm not coming up with much. Most of the songs about memories/growing up that I've found are more appropriate for a funeral then a graduation tape. :p Found one about two parents having a kid by mistake but still loving it all the same. Really nice song, but somehow I don't think that'd fit too well. :)

staind - "zoe jane" is the lead singer singing about his daughter and missing her. dunno if that fits, but it's acoustic and easy to listen to.

Well give me songs anyway. Even if you think they're for a funeral :D

The staind song isn't half bad. It may work.

Here's a few:
The Ataris - In This Diary
http://youtube.com/watch?v=O6sxmWILUsI

Bliss 66 - Not Quite Paradise
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pnZVL2vSGng

Jimmy Eat World - Futures
http://youtube.com/watch?v=FviRDzwqRgU

Mae - Anything (Kinda Vague per the theme, but it fits IMO)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=GkNfKYsL8BQ

Eve 6 - Here's to the Night (Kinda)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=m_wHlg_AL0c

Funeral Music: (you asked for it)
Default - The Memory Will Never Die
http://youtube.com/watch?v=LJRljOHw-b4

This is the only one that could possibly fit IMO (most of the rest were literally about funerals)
