C&C is a weird gig. The whole series of music is about his comic strip. I like the music, but I don't do comics.

The albums for Coheed and Cambria are based on a story, and he wanted to do comics for them but it was mostly a pipe dream for a while IIRC. I believe they only had one short issue at first, a couple years ago they started making more, I have the first two volumes, Second Stage Turbine Blade an In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3.

What about Electric Sun? Pretty much all of Uli's projects after the Scorpions was operatic rock. A good example is Beyond the Astral Skies.

Uli figured that many rock and metal artists were uninspired. He then went and made classical/rock opera music using rock-and-roll flair with a guitar instead of violins. At times his vocals can annoy, but the mood and operatic progressions are often inspiring.

I say RUSH's "2112" does count as a Rock Opera. I would also consider "Clockwork Angels" is one also, but you really need to read the book by Neil Peart and Kevin Anderson to get the full story.

Well anything really that has a story throughout. Too many to list, even ?

The Wall, The Final Cut, i mean, if you listen to the Pink Floys guys, ALL their albums are concept albums.
Stuff like The Lamb Lies Down are touted to be albums that "tell a story" but i couldn't tell from listening to it. Joe's Garage is a rock opera, in that every song serves to tell the one story of Joe's misadventures.
Many albums have a common theme and are not specifically rock operas.

I have a few albums from Coheed and Cambria in rotation on my playlist. I have not found a single track yet that I don't like. Some are better than others and I don't like his screaming, but none of the tracks are bad enough to skip or pull from rotation. I don't think I have another group I can say that about.


One thing I've noticed is that there is very little repetition. In so many songs, bands tend to repeat lyrics or sections of music so much they get annoying. I don't see that with these guys. There is progression and change all the way through in both lyrics and music.
