1911
Anyone own or know anything about the Rock Island 1911s? the 1st one listed is $274 - good price for a 1911 and its the style i like.

Made in the Philippines but are supposed to be a decent starter 1911.

I have only held a couple, they seemed fairly well put together.

Can't see the link from work, but the name sounds familiar. If its the same, my friend had one he got used for $140. I was afraid to shoot the damn thing, it felt like it would come apart in your hands.

If I couldn't afford a Springfield Armory or Kimber, I probibly would pass but thats just me.

The no frills Springfield's aren't that much more (~$400 last time I checked, WWII model).

I believe Rock Island has a reasonably good name for their AR-15's, haven't heard anything about their 1911's.

Viper GTS

The Rock Island that the OP is talking about is different from the one that makes AR15s.

I've got a Springfield GI model that is actually a pretty nice gun. They go for around $425-$450. I'd stay away from the Phillipino guns like the Rock Islands, some are okay, but MANY report problems. Buy quality and only cry once!

JMHO, after collecting guns for the last 30 years...
