Stupid question, but what does the "Special Edition" bundle mean? Is it different from the standard bundle package?

Special Edition comes with the instruments you need to actually play the game. Why the sell the normal edition (software only) is beyond me.

Yeah, for the cost of the software, drums, and microphone, you're already past retail for the special edition. You can think of it as getting a free guitar, I suppose.

For those that may only want the game for the guitar part, and already have a guitar from GH3 or GH2. That's one scenario I can think of anyway.

I got this deal about a month ago, when Amazon had it for $149 shipped, and it's been the most fun I've had gaming in years. I've honestly not inserted another disc into my 360 since.

The new in-game DLC store is awesome too, and the DLC (downloadable content) is fantastic, and keeps the game fresh. Harmonix releases new song packs every Tuesday (for a fee, of course).

I love this game!

Wow, $142 is a great deal on this, I was coming in here to say I saw it at sams for $149, but I may just grab it from amazon. As jeffjones66 said, the download content for rockband is awesome. I rented it to use my GH guitar, and ended up spending about $20 in ms points to get a bunch of songs. Great game, and great price here

True, but not if you have a PS3. Guitar Hero guitars are not compatible with Rock Band on the PS3, unlike on the Xbox.

ya, no kididng, too bad they don't sell a guitar by itself yet either. Had to buy two rock band sets so I could get a bass and a guitar going. Anybody interested in just the game, drums and a mic? 😛

Today only (3/31), if you have a Meijer Master Card, you can get Rock Band bundle for $150 - 15% = $127.50, in-store only.

BTW, I bought Rock Band game only to play with my GH2 guitar. Now, I'll have to sell off the extra copy I'll have if I get the bundle.

thats only for ps3(and maybe wii?), the 360 GH3 guitar works fine with rock band.

Other players discovered at the game's launch that the Gibson Les Paul guitar controller bundled with the PlayStation 3 version of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is not compatible with the PlayStation 3 version of Rock Band, despite Harmonix stating that any controllers that followed the open-controller standard would work. While this incompatibility can be resolved through technical solutions, both Harmonix and Activision have cited the other party is at fault for failing to correct the incompatibility. Harmonix developed a patch to fix the issue, but it has been blocked by Activision. Activision states that MTV Games is unwilling to reach an agreement to pay Activision to use the Guitar Hero III technology in Rock Band. Nyko has announced a PlayStation 3 version of their "Frontman" guitar controller, which will work with both Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The Les Paul featured in the Wii version of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is also said to be incompatible with the yet-to-be-released Wii version of Rock Band.
