Rock band fronted by a hot chick (Halestorm). Thoughts?

I used to really enjoy listening to bands like Breaking Benjamin, CHevelle, Puddle of Mudd, etc...can't do it anymore, more of a funk/jazz guy nw.

Here's a video of them doing a live performance of a song that didn't make it on either of their big album releases. Maybe this has less of a "mainstream" sound that a number of people are complaining about. Definitely a good one if you like banshee screams (later on in the song). The lead-up to the scream starts at about 2:15, and gets screamy 25 seconds later or so, then continues off/on til the end of the video.

I like halestorm, but for some reason they always plays really small venues in my area. Basically at bars and clubs. They do draw a large crowd, but I've always just thought they were some unsigned band, I had no idea how big they were.

I actually thought it was an evanescence cover band the first time I saw them.

Since Halestorm is playing BFD in Dallas this summer, they have been playing them on the radio (Love Bites) recently. I'm starting to hear the A7X-sound people are pointing out. But I do like A7X, so.. it's all good.

god that was horrific.... sad state of pop/rock music it is these days...

give me metal...

That's what I thought. The screaming was extremely...eh. Metal screams have FEELING behind them, a gutteral gut smash.

That was just a pop song.

I'm curious if you could provide an example of a metal song with screams that have "feeling". Is "metal" the only genre you can enjoy? I like everything, from bubble gum, to metal, to country, to everything in between (just about, anyway).

Do people say stuff like this just to be different?

Her voice isn't that spectacular imho, dude hit it on the head when he said she lacks range. She sounds decent in her range, but it's very limited. Etta James had a limited range but was so powerful it made up for it. Christian Agulaera has range even Pink has more range then her, and honestly Pink's voice is on the weaker side. This chick's better than most pop singers, but that doesn't mean her voice is something amazing.

What do you mean by range? Because by my definition of range, this chick's (Lzzy Hale) range is one of the most dynamic I've heard in quite some time, especially in rock music. She can sing ballads very well (listen to their cover of "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You", much better than the original IMO), can do justice to a cover of Skid Row's "Slave to the Grind", and pretty much everything in between. So if you mean "range", by able to sing a broad range of styles, she appears to have that covered quite well too. When I think of range, I think of like octaves, like low notes, all the way to really high notes, and she has a crazy range, especially on the high end, and hits the notes in their lives performances too, not just in the studio. Did you only listen to "Love Bites"?

Um no, they are nothing like A7X.at.all. Not even close. Synester is 10X better than their guitarist, M Shadows screams during his songs, and their drumming is 10X better in that it actually changes and they sometimes have drum solos. I.e. even their radio hits have difficulty in them (like Bat Country's drums ahem). Halestorm, most high school talent show bands could play their songs. Really the only unique thing about them is the lead singer.

They. Have. A. Similiar. Sound. :colbert:

That's all that's was said.. 😕

Still not seeing why you like them so much. They're painfully uninteresting. Song was meh, and her voice is actually starting to actively annoy me.

Well, apparently, we just have different tastes in music. I do appreciate your comments though, as it's a free bump for my thread, and hopefully it'll expose someone else to their music that can appreciate them the way I do.

The band is generic homage. But she does rock. I'm not sure why you say she has flat voice, when critics don't agree with that thought.

Why are you doing that? If we're interested in keeping this thread on the front page, we will reply to it.

Are you saying you wanted this kept on the front page with your post? 😉 You could have PM'd me.

I really like this band, yet they've been out for 3 years, and I hadn't heard of them until very recently. I presume there are others on this forum that aren't in the off-topic forum section all the time, that will also like this band, so that's why I'm bumping it (so they'll have a greater chance of discovering this band). If my every-other-day (at most) bumps were really annoying a large number of people, I imagine a mod would have instructed me to tone it down, or lock the thread.
