Life's hard. It's harder if you're stupid.

Thieves are pretty dumb, but this guy cranked it to eleven. Seeing as how he was the aggressor, I don't feel too much pity for him.

good. One less thug to vote ten times for the obama.

You teapublicans and your boogeymen, funny stuff. Oh you'll bring up voter fraud in a thread completely unrelated to the topic to bash Dems and Obama, yet your convictions are curiously absent from the actual thread about Chris White, the Illinois Secretary of State who was found guilty of multiple counts of voter fraud.

I guess voter fraud isn't so bad so long as it's being done by a (R) who actually works in government. Those (D) voting lowlife types you need to keep your eye on though, you just know they'd do it if they could, right?

Obama doesn't need your mythical multi-voting bums to get re-elected, he's got the GOP handling that for him.

Keep your stupid shit in P&N.

As to the OP, hope like hell they don't get charged and the damn thief got what he deserved (assuming story is on the up and up).

ohh lol, I misread it 😳 I thought one of the friends had the robber in a headlock, and the other friend pulled him off and put him in another headlock. whoops. this makes much more sense now

What the OP quotes says headlock...

"One of the men lunged to get the phone back and Davis put him in a headlock, according to sources. Then, sources say the other man, a former high school wrestler, pulled Davis off his friend and put the would-be robber in a headlock."

Ah what's going on here, how do you choke to death in a headlock?

Could be any number of chokes. Rear naked, guillotine, etc.

Those are amateur wrestling holds I take it? Assuming is stupid I know, but I'm thinking if the person who wrote the article is like me and most others that they used 'headlock' based off of their knowledge of WWF type wrestling.

Another story says the headlock was so strong that it choked him which doesn't really make sense either.

No, they're chokeholds from various martial arts disciplines.

I would assume headlock to be synonymous with chokehold in this situation.

Indeed, based on context.

By stating he was a former high-school wrestler, thus implying Greco-Roman or Freestyle. However, many of those discipline also learn martial-arts methods. Subduing an assailant or whatever usually focuses on the blood in such disciplines. Basic military combatives also focuses on hitting only the blood supply.

As for this situation, probably heat of the moment (muscular strength underestimated due to sudden live or die instinct) combined with struggling... he may have dual-tapped the choke hold and/or crushed the windpipe to boot. It could have been intentional to both choke and strangle, or he may have intended the proper method to incapacitate an assailant (ie strangle - aka blood-choke) to then restrain or flee, but due to the previous factors, hit both.
It's far easier to kill unintentionally if you both choke and strangle, when armed with both strength and training. It's far easier to hit only the blood when you are able to fully restrain and prevent any thrashing while retaining the hold - which random thrashing like that doesn't occur during competition/training, it's more refined. An untrained attacker (and then victim) is likely to thrash more chaotically, thus requiring increased effort too. In the process of clamping down, and the assailant writhing around with likely incorrect defensive posturing, one could completely block air, and depending upon when that began, it might not be apparent that you've made progress toward loss of consciousness; that is to say, blood has been restricted some, off and on perhaps, or not 100%, so no visible signs but that's less time needed to complete the task, and faking is possible. A few extra seconds for a arterial-restriction only would not cause death in most cases; if airways, however, has also been blocked with a slightly longer hold, or you've accidentally achieved the choke effectively without entirely establishing the necessary strangle - they could factor into each other more effectively earlier than expected.

Investigator type shit right there. :awe:

wonder what race Gian was, since whites are the majority in this country, I'll assume he was white.

yeah the use of headlock in the article would make most think the WWE type. but really those can be deadly.

a headlock can easily cut off the blood or windpipe. its just a matter if its applied correctly.

As a high school wrestler he most likely learned them so as NOT to do them in a match. not to mention it wouldn't take much to figure out what to do if you are used to wrestling.

my guess is the guy put his friend in a headlock (the type you see in wwe wrestling) and his buddy jumped on the guys back and put him in a rear naked choke type and squeezed until the guy stopped moving wich in reality does not take long.

I have a question.

If you choke a person, you black out only to wake up seconds/minutes later.

But sometimes you can out right kill? Why didn't he deploy a simply black out instead?

He might have crushed his windpipe.

Very good chance this happened. Blood and air chokes would need to be held for a fair length of time, unless cardiac arrest or something occurred as a result. Because the brain can go without oxygen for several minutes, and people still survive, though brain cells are killed. Besides, most peoples arms would gas before they held it that tight for that long. Crush the trachea though, without immediate EMS, and you are definitely toast.

An old school side headlock, could have had the forearm or wrist drive right up into the trachea. It could have turned neck crank and affected the spinal cord. Or it could be he let the perp drop on the pavement and he suffered serious brain trauma.

If they follow up with the Coroner's report, please post it. Very interested in which scenario played out.

Oh, and I know the whole "it's gay" thing is the running joke. But, when you are on the mat with a really good wrestler, you had better have some game, or he will grapple fuck, no 2 ways about it. Which is to say, if he wanted to rape you, there would not be a whole lot you could do about it but ask him to leave the money on the dresser. 😛

Really? This is akin to asking why a homeowner didn't aim for the robber's leg versus his chest.
