also, do I need exchange U.S. currency before I enter the country, or are there currency exchange locations throughout Toronto?

Many places take U.S. currency. Doesn't hurt to convert some. I'd do it at a local bank. Or just use an ATM.

I'm sure there are some there, but won't hurt to exchange it before hand. You can go and get a copy of your Birth certificate for like $15. Don't think they'll take an original anyway....
