Roadrunner still requiring cable service?

My friend doesn't have cable but wants to get roadrunner. Time Warner (Cincinnati) says he has to have cable service, which is another 10+/month for him. The telco won't have DSL in his area for another few months and he's like broadband now.

I remember reading something about an antitrust suit to not require users to have cable service. Does anyone else remember this, or did I just make it up?

You don't need cable with TW(NYC) last I checked. It's more expensive though than if you are a subscriber.

Maybe that was what the suit was over. That's what came to mind, but he said that he couldn't get it because he didn't have cable.

In San Antonio TX, RR Cable Internet is $10 more/mo w/o a basic cable subscription. DSL is the way to go, at least down here. My buddy has RR and at peak times, he only gets 10-15K second download speed. Sadness. At 0300 though, he gets around 300kbs, which freakin' rocks, but who wants to wait till 0300 to surf?

I love my SWB DSL. Went thru heck w/it getting it to work w/my Netgear 314 router, but the slowest Iv'e seen is about 25kbs. Regularly get 120+kbs. A faaaaaaar cry from the 2.3kbs with my old dialup.
