Roadrunner current cable modems?

Hi all,

Does anyone know what cable modems TW Road Runner is currently giving to new customers? I have a several year old PCX 1000 modem and I'm thinking about either exchanging it with them or just buying a new one and seeing if they can activate it.

Thanks for any info!

Hi.

Are your UL/DL speeds lower than they should be?

I had an older TimeWarner/RoadRunner Toshiba, posiibly a PCX1000, replaced with a Toshiba PCX2200 about half a year ago when I was having trouble with my service. Ultimately, however, the old Cable modem wasn't the problem. My problems were, on the second service call, traced to the physical cable that ran from TW's nearest junction box to my apartment (the cable was probably going on 20 years old). They ran a new cable, and everything's been good since. (Very close to what's advertised in my area at 2840/353 out of 3000/350.)

I'm using a Toshiba PCX2500, Road Runner Hawaii. I believe it was installed Spring 2003, so there may be newer models out.

Recently when they upgraded our speed to 5mbps/384kbps from 3mbps/384kbps, they required everyone to upgrade from the PCX1000's to get the speed boost. We don't buy our modems in Hawaii though, I believe you place a small deposit, ~$25, for it, and you get it back when you return the modem after canceling service.

I got an RCA modem from them in 2001 IIRC, Roadrunner NYC. It sucks ass though, two of them crapped out on me. I replaced it myself with a Motorola SB5100 for about $50. Speed is the same but connection is much more stable now.

I switched from DSL to roadrunner about 2 months ago and I was given the RCA modem, running smoothly so far.

I work for time warner cable and all i do install road runner basically. As long as its a digital modem they use any one that works. I still install a lot of toshiba 1100's(which i think are crap). Personally I think the motarola 5100 is the most stable modem ive seen. Very little repeat service calls for them. Also there one the best looking modems as well.

I am in the Columbus, Ohio area. I have had RR for about 7 months. They gave me a Motorola Surfboard 5100. It has worked awesome so far.
