Just won a '93 Land Cruiser on eBay ... looks to be a good deal. Had my brother check it out for me.

Linky

But it's in Pa. and I'm in Colorado, so I'll be making a trip east sometime in the next few weeks to visit family & drive it back. Anybody want a ride :D

When I get it back, my 2001 Tundra will be for sale if anybody is interested.

More likely 70 ... but haven't looked at the map yet. MapQuest shows 1600 miles and about 25 hours driving time. Probably 3 days.

If you are on I-80, let me know. I'm about 5 minutes from it near Iowa City.

When are you heading over?

Dunno yet ... I'm probably goi8ng to hit up priceline on a Thurs. afternoon to try for a dirt cheap ticket the next day. That or wait for a reason for work to send me to the east coast again ... might have a trip to Goddard lined up for late April.

Looked at a map tonight. I might take 80 ... probably not to big a difference in mileage, and I know I took 70 last time I drove across (1994). See something new!

Whoa, that thing was only $9K? :Q If it's as mint as it looks, it should have commanded a fair penny more than that! Nice deal!

My brother said it has the usual wear & tear you'd expect n an 11 year old car with 100K on it ... a few door dings & scuffs, but not bad at all. Looks garaged, 1 owner, etc. KBB Retail for PA lists it as $11480 for good condition, for CO it lists as $12730 :Q

So yea, I think I got a pretty good deal :D
As long as everything holds up ... these things are hella expensive to fix from what I here.

On the undercarriage? That's minor ... just surface rust on the welds & such, and these guys don't have tinfoil frames!
suprised it isn't more actually after 11 years of PA winters and the amout of salt & calcium they dump on the roads.

Had a 77 camaro in H.S. Had to get the frame rails welded up ... it was about to break in half!

More information ... my brother emailed me a scan of the title today. It lists the dealershipt that sold the car originally. I've been contemplating getting a good tuneup done before I drive it back across, and was wondering what the maintenance history looked like in terms of major service.

So I called the dealership, and asked the service dept. if they had any service records on the vehicle (geve them the VIN). Guy told me that the previous owner serviced it there "religiously" ... all oil changes, scheduled maintenance, etc. Last major service was the 90K work done on it it 4/2002. Had a tranny fluid change and adjustment last year, and an oil change in Dec., just before they traded it in (at a different dealership).

So it's looking pretty cherry :) Not gonna bother with the tuneup.

On the bad news front, the power antenna doesn't work ... no biggy. and the CD player doesn't work :( Oh well

In a bit of serendipity, I need to go out to Goddard SFC on business this week. It's just N. of D.C. and an easy drive from my brother's place near Harrisburg. My STBX has the kids this weekend, so I'm flying east thurs. night, working @ Goddard Friday, then driving to my brother's place Fri. night. Then driving the Land Cruiser west Saturday morning. Should take 3 days.

Looks like 80 is only maybe slightly longer then 70 ... maybe 150 miles out of 1600. Maybe not even that much ... I had to trick MapQuest by telling it I wanted to go from Harrisburg to Chicago, then Chicago to Colorado Springs. So I'll probably take that route since I haven't before.

So what's there to see along 80??

Sounds really good. :)

Just make sure the tires, brakes, and cooling system are up to snuff and you should be good to go!

Grrr ... now my dad want's to drive along back with me. :(
I mean, we get along pretty well now. But 3 days of him back-seat driving will drive me nuts.
Yes, that's right. I'm 34 years old, and my dad still criticizes my driving every chance he gets ... he's a complete control freak.

Shrug ... wasn't private party. Guess it wasn't really "retail" either since it went through eBay. But had the dealer checkout, etc. Was below NADA "low retail" also for the PA zipcode.

Anyway, I'm happy with the price ... private party KBB in CO is $10,015

I'm back! Was a nice drive. The Cruiser runs great ... no problems at all, except it's a pig on gas. But I knew that. Took 80 because of the weather further south.

Discovered when I got to my brother's place that the spare was flat ... Al rim was all corroded, so the bead wouldn't seal, and the tire was very dry rotted. So, cleaned up the rim & a new tire and all was well.

Anybody want to buy a Tundra?
