UPDATE: passed with no problems! w00t!

hey-

Got my road test tomorrow, think I'll do well but can't sleep right now so I figured I'd post. Anyone got any last minute tips or road test horror stories to scare me off? ;)

Thanks,

And am I the only person that felt absolutely no anxiety or pressure about my road test? It was like another day to me, no big deal. May have something to do with the fact that i've been driving since I was like 12 though.

Make sure to check for "No Turn on Red" signs when you stop at a stoplight. I wish somebody would have given me that advice before I took my test for the first time.

Good luck. Don't get intimidated :)

When I took the test, the cop who was supervising me told me to take a left on a 2-way/2-lane road. I was thinking WTH? and then she told me again, more agitated, to take a left. So I started drifting to the left when she screamed at me that I had to take a left a half mile down the road. Miraculously I passed the test.

Remember, the test doesnt officialy end until you've parked the car and turned off the ignition. So when you pull in to park, make you're still doing everything right.

make sure you don't do a rolling stop on a stop sign.

make sure you turn your blinker on for every turn, including a park.

make sure you put your seatbelt on BEFORE you turn on the car, they screwed me for putting on my seatbelt AFTER I turned it on

people have been giving me sh!t because I'm confident I'll do well. I've been driving for only 8 months but I'm comfortable with the car and I can do all of the required things (3 pt. turn, paralell park, etc.) correctly.

I have a friend who was in the drivers ed class before me and did just that on his road test. needless to say he became an example in my class. :D

Avoid the cones, other road testers, and (like the others have said) don't do a rolling stop.

Oh, and bring your valid insurance card.

Remember: bring some 2pac tapes to play, and offer to install some new speakers in the car. Most road test instructors enjoy some good ol' rap while they fail your ass...

learn all obscure and petty road rules. Or at least try not to get a tester who delights in them. On my first test I was failed for not letting pedestrians cross the road. When they were a) not at a crossing b) on the sidewalk and c) clearly waiting for me to go past. I went past and failed. VERY annoying. But if you're confident you will be fine, nerves cause more mistakes then the supposed alertness it grants you corrects.

Taxachusetts does their tests on active streets and you don't need an insurance card to take the test...don't scare me like that!

and contrary to what they taught you at drivers ed, its signal first then head check, not the other way around. My guy yelled at me about that for 5 mins, then said i passed :)

For my road test I could not park the car, I had the technique correct I just could not seal the deal, but the instructor passed me. There is some good advice in this thread and I think the two most important are the shoulder check when reversing and paying attention to the signs. Of course stop means: STOP. Good luck!
