Road Test: 2002 Mini Cooper

I want one too 🙂 The guy who owns the corner grocery store at the top of my block has a nice dark blue one 😛

Cheers,
Aquaman

I saw one of these up in gville a few weeks ago... VERY stylish in person, i like it 😀

i dont see the fascination. And dont give me the "Its a BMW" routine. It's a geo metro with BMW's thumbs up.

Ignorance is bliss 😉 First of all, it didn't just get "BMW's approval." The whole thing from the ground up is BMW engineered.

Read this and this before making insane comments😉. And another thing, I don't think that Geo Metros can be had with standard front, side, and head curtain airbags, or be optioned out with traction control, stability system, GPS, full length canvas sun roof, CVT transmission, nor does a Geo Metro have a 3-Series rear suspension nor is a Geo Metro 1.5 times stiffer than a 3-Series (as the Mini is).

Mini's are cool, I'd never own one, but cool to see out on the road

LOL Laust, you couldn't FIT in one 😉

uhhh... its a death trap with BMW's approval. I'd love to see one of those SUVs you praise so much(😉) hit it at 55MPH broadside.

Actually, I'd stand a better chance than either a Geo Metro or a Honda Civic given the Mini's structure and passive safety features.

that thing is puny

The Cooper is "puny" but the 6-speed Cooper S with 163 HP is faster than the SVT Focus, Sentra SE-R, and Honda Civic SI and it is sure to handle much better as well.

well it doesn't have a 3 speed auto like the Metro so thats a pretty good start 😉

This right here sold me:

This is one of the most entertaining front-wheel-drive cars I've ever driven. The chassis is incredibly lively, and at the same time, very controlled. I knew exactly what the car was doing at all times (and reveled in that awareness), and whenever I hurled it into a turn, the body settled down almost immediately, making it easy to power out. The grip was amazing ? it seemed that I could do no wrong with this car. And this is as it should be, given the Cooper's widespread appeal; regardless of their skill level, owners are going to be able to have fun with this car. The highway ride wasn't ultra smooth, but still good enough to please the eager Mini driver. Overall, I thought the balance of ride and handling was ideal; I'm not sure that I'd need an S to satisfy my performance appetite. Of course, the steering is also a fine example of BMW engineering ? it has great weighting, quick response times and a small turning radius.

😛😀🙂

I think it looks good in pics but I saw one in person a couple of days ago and it looked awful. Not saying I wouldn't take one if given to me though 😉
