Road Runner DNS server seems to suck all of a sudden

Hrmm, I put static IPs for my machines behind the router (had to forward ports for each machine for BT and ed2k) and so I also specified the DNS in Windows Connection properties as well. Should I take them off (meaning leave them blank? I'm not at my home computer but would like to save some frustration =]

You should be able to just set the DNS to "auto" in your networking properties,and just setup the DNS numbers you want from within your Routers Config and it should direct everything for you.

I just put the addresses in my router and now all the computers on the network are working much better.

Mine is still slow as hell. Scott, can you try connecting to www.maggotcontrol.com ? Mine takes about 5 seconds until the contents begin to download to my browser. Rossman tells me it's fast on his end but everyone on TWCRR I know of in my area tells me it's slow as hell.

I went to the level3 numbers for the last couple of days, they are more consistent, but I don't like paying RR and getting my DNS service elsewhere.

So I decided to go back to RR's dns servers, and at least right now they are working quite well. I tried the maggotcontrol site and it loaded almost instantaneously.

I have no problems at all paying RR and using another DNS service. I pay RR for speed, and speed I shall get no matter what!

That site took a second to start loading on mine as well.

Some sites will do that no matter what you do i believe.
but 95% of mine load very fast now.compared to about 5% loading before changing the Numbers.


Nice to see that site was about guitars.
i'll have to check it out now.

What I meant was, I don't think it's acceptable, on RoadRunner's part, to have substandard DNS servcie, I just didn't say it very well.

I totally agree with you now. However I am cutting them some slack since my area shows Red on their network status page.

I still get these 5-6 second delays even with L3 DNS servers. Called RR Tech support and they tell me my signal is as good as they come and that there has been no reported incidents similar to mine. They offered to replace my cable modem so maybe this may help. Otherwise my downloads once initiated is like 500+KB/sec.
