RR is offering a free download of EZ Armor. Go to www.rr.com for more info. EZ Armor is an internet security, virus package. I don't know how good it is, though.

I don't know about the EZ Armor, but I've been using their eTrust EZ Antivirus since it came out and it's been rock solid. I actually first heard about it from AnandTech a few years ago when it was free. I've been using it ever since. I like it better than Norton and McAffee.

I have read that users of this product at dsl reports believe it is a good product. Basically two parts, an anti virus and a firewall with popup blocker etc. You could sign up at RR for a security key and then either download the whole package - EZ Armor, or go to CA and download just the AV or just the firewall. The firewall is actually zone alarm pro (ver. 3.7.179).
Although I have downloaded EZ Arnor, it won't let you install just a portion of the program so I have downloaded the firewall portion from CA and plan to install it on my new build (just recently paid for another year of NAV).

I use the antivirus portion. Very low system resources. I haven't had occasion to test it, really... no viruses for me in quite some time :)

I wouldn't call it nothing, RR is $50/mo.

Look at it this way. Some viruses use network bandwidth, especially the recent DDOS ones like mydoom. Giving away AV software to its customers could very well save TW money.

Hi all,

Installed this on my step dad's pc and it ran for exactly one day, then stated the licence had expired and no longer runs. :frown:

Of course their web-site says the license is good for another 350 some days!

After spending over an hour trying everything I could figure from the FAQ & KB on their annoying web-site, I shot off a web-support request. The next day got an auto-reply with a case number and a bunch of links (to the FAQ & KB articles of course) and an offer to open a paid phone support incident.

Nothing new today. We'll see if they willl send a real answer tomorrow. If not, it's time to go elsewhere (it's only worth so much time to save him 20-30 bucks).

So if it installs and works for you, it could be a good deal. But if like us you have trouble, you get a crappy support site and the option of paying for phone support. :disgust:

If RR would officially support and suggest the use of routers, a software firewall wouldn't be necessary. I might check EZ Armor out as an antivirus. I pretty much use FPROT for DOS exclusively though. It fits on my USB keychain.

My understanding of the firewall part of this package is that it is very good. It is ZoneAlarm, just rebranded with EZArmor's logo. Same exact functionality underneath.

Did you receive the emailed license key from EZ Armor?

I've installed this on several PC's with absolutely no problems. EZ Armor found one virus that Norton missed on one installation.

The antivirus is better than nothing, but after testing it out myself, it kind of disappoints. Check out this thread for more details

See if your antivirus software REALLY works

I tried this program out since I already use RoadRunner. According to Roadrunners FAQ its supposed to be free for as long as you are a RoadRunner customer. However after installing the software I noticed the license info said it expired in 1 year. I asked RoadRunner if that means virus updates are only good for one year, and he didn't seem to know. I also sent an email to the authors of this antivirus software, and they never replied.

So I uninstalled it and went back to my free Avast antivirus software which is much nicer looking anyways.

One thing I noticed about this Etrust antivirus is that it didn't give me any option to do anything with a virus once it finds one (such as quarantine it like Avast does). I tested it with the test file on eicar.org

Not to point out the obvious, but did you guys check to make sure the system date on those PCs hasn't changed?

It's a one year license, but presuming that are still a RR customer this time next year, and they still have this relationship w/ CA, you would get another 1 year license.

And can I ask WHY there are so many people still on broadband connections without a router? It's insane. Average people who get firewall software are going to have one or both of the following things happen: not be protected because it isn't setup right and/or be really annoyed and frustrated when things they are trying to do on the net don't work and have no idea why or what to do about it. Even if they just have one machine, put them on a router anyway. No hassles, no learning curve. They're only like $40 at retail stores now. NAT=done.
