Road Kill Candy ticks off the Animal Rights losers.

From CNN...

This is another good example of people throwing a fuss about anything they can. 😛

TRENTON, New Jersey (AP) -- Animal rights activists are disgusted by a new candy from Kraft Foods Inc. that's shaped like critters run over by cars -- complete with tire treads.

The fruity-flavored Trolli Road Kill Gummi Candy -- in shapes of partly flattened snakes, chickens and squirrels -- fosters cruelty toward animals, according to the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

"It sends the wrong message to children, that it's OK to harm animals. And that's the wrong message, especially from a so-called wholesome corporation like Kraft," said society spokesman Matthew Stanton.

The society is considering petition drives, boycotts and letter-writing campaigns to get the candy pulled from the market, Stanton said.

After receiving a complaint from the NJSPCA Wednesday, Kraft officials pulled an animated advertisement from Trolli's Web site that featured car headlights and animals.

No other decisions on changes have been made, said Kraft spokesman Larry Baumann.

"If you look across the Gummi category we certainly have many products that are offbeat, and that's what we were doing in this case," Baumann said. "We didn't mean to offend anyone."

I love how these organizations use strictly emotional arguments and sound bites, not to mention the "save the children" strawman arguments such as this one:

"It sends the wrong message to children, that it's OK to harm animals"

So lame.

Getting all worked up about it is almost as stupid as the original idea to make candy in the shape of squished animals. I can imagine some guy at Kraft driving down the road and seeing a flattened squirrel and just going, "That'd be an AWESOME candy!"

Personally I think it's a stupid idea on Kraft's part. Why not just make human suicide candies.

I personally can't say I'm that offended by it, but it's certainly in poor taste, especially since this is a product marketed to kids.

I hate that too. Everything's always "about the children", "for the children", "just think of the children", etc. When did children become the excuse for every nut job's itinerary, and beyond that, when did children become more important than actual PEOPLE?

It's legal to eat your road kill in some states. Forgot who passed that law... Yeah, we needed a law for that.

Why in the world would any candy manufacturer want to produce candy shaped as roadkill.

That is fvcked up to begin with.

And more importantly, when did parents give up the role of teaching their OWN kids morals and values.
God help me if Kraft Foods is supposed to be teaching my children values...... :Q

Exactly. How many times have we bitten off the head of an animal cracker going up? Have we done that to any (real) animals since? 😀

Children eat candy. The advertising would be aimed at children. Personally I agree with you. Children aren't more important than anyone else. But this particular product would be being advertised for that particular age group.

I agree. I find it strange they would even come up with something like this.

oh come on... I hope you are being sarcastic... you can't possibly be offended by gummy candies... its a joke on Kraft's part...

Next thing you know we can't watch the Road Runner drop anvils on Wile E, because it promotes violence towards animals... OMGOHNOOOO!!!!...

OMG! Next thing you know, kids are suddenly going to go pick up a flattened kitty in the middle of the road and chow down.

The original candy idea is IMHO very stupid.

Now, I know that this group hates PETA and thier ilk, but grouping the SPCA with them really surprises me.

If I were an animal rights activist, wouldn't my time be better spent trying to reduce the rate of REAL animals getting run over?

Sadly, they probably think they are. They are following the same logic that says violent video games create murderers.

Theres a reason for that, without it, it would be illegal to process an animal(say a deer) that you hit, without committing a felony.
