I'm looking to get a road bike...but every NEW road bike is too expensive. I dont' care if the bike is old, I just want something that gets me around, without looking like my huffy(beat up POS).

Any websites to check out? Used bike resellers?

Recommendations as to what to look for and what to stay away from?

Thanks,
Paul

If $500 is your upper limit, consider saving up another $50 plus appropriate sales tax, and by a new road bike. They can be had starting around $550..........Giant's OCR3 comes to mind. While it's an 8spd setup, it's not bad by any means and it'll be NEW.....new bearings, wheels, rims, tires, chain, cassette, STI shifters, Aluminum frame.

You may find a 2002 model for $500 or less if you scrounge some shops since the 2003 models are out already.

Supergo is an alternative, but they seem ot get orders wrong more than they get it right. And while they'll get the right thing ot you eventually, a week shipping back, a week shipping to you.....wastes a month when you could be riding. And he'd be fit properly, hopefully, from a shop............maybe pick up some riding buds, too.

It is a shame you don't live closer because I need to get rid of my old road bike.

Considering that mountain and hybrid bikes are the fad now it's crazy that you can't even get a road bike at say Wal-Mart anymore, while just a few years ago you could have only gotten a road bike there.

Another vote for the OCR3. C'daleRider pretty much has it dead on.

Same here, the OCR3 is a great entry level road bike. Just saw one yesterday for $399 on closeout at my LBS. Check around, closeouts are hotest this time of year since you're more likely to find the right size bike you need.
