I just sent in my AMD Radeon HD 7970 (DirectCU2 triple slot!) to Asus. It's been needing to be sent back for a while now but I decided to finally do it. Cost me [redacted] $30 though! ($15 for boxing and $15 for shipping! Damn FedEx took me out back for the boxing... I didn't know it'd cost that much! I would've done it myself if I had known.)

Profanity isn't allowed in the technical forums.

Typical TridenT thing I guess.

Nothing much to see here.

New, is highly unlikely.

Why would anyone pay $15 for a box? Shipping SHOULD have been less than $10 as well...

BUT, it's Tridentboy...no one expects common sense from him.

However...staying with the topic...expect a refurbished card. Possibly the same model you sent in...possibly slightly newer.

I had to RMA an EVGA GTX460. they returned a GTX660.

Its asus. They will probably smash your card then send it back in pieces. Then say you sent it that way.

Actually, the shipping was the cheapest from any provider. I looked it up online.

The box was $15 because they overcharge for a damn box and then sold me a bunch of foam which apparently is the same cost as bubblewrap there. Who knows why it was so expensive. I didn't know it would cost that much when they were doing it. Otherwise, I would've likely waited a few days, bought some packing materials myself, and then shipped it.

you'll probably get a 280x if the have any left.

if not that, possibly a 380

A 280X is just a rebrand... So, hopefully not. :( A 380 would be a downgrade. I hope they send a 390 or 390X. Or, you know, like a Fury X or Fury Nano. I'm gonna resell whatever I get back anyway.

I have a 980 Ti now. Whatever they send is likely to be way slower than that.

There is absolutely 0 chance of you getting a 390 or 390X, and you must be joking when it comes Nano or Fury X. You'll either get the same card, a 280X, or 380X.

I RMA'd a 280x to Asus last year and they contacted me and asked if a GTX970 would be okay. I, of course, accepted.

They should contact you first if they cannot replace it with the same model card.

Nah. I'm positive you'll get a brand new Titan X, instead. Wait... I think the last time I RMA a MSI Geforce GT 610, they sent me Big Pascal, instead. Yeah, that was it. I'm pretty sure that was it. lol ;) :D

Seriously though, it's normally a equivalent used card from this generation.

You basically did the upgrade I did last year (I went from a 7970 to a 970) and I paid over $100 more.

Pat yourself on the back.

I was going to make fun of OP for spending $30 on shipping and "boxing" when he could have spent $13.45 (dang rate went up again in 2016) to package it and mail it himself with a USPS Priority Medium Flat Rate box.

-BUT-

Going from a 7970 to a 390 is a nice upgrade, so congrats.

Actually, I don't think that would have fit the card? Maybe it would have but probably not with any padding.

Says it's 11" long.

There are two versions of the medium flat rate box. One is longer than the other and has less depth.

But in general you can always save money by boxing your own, using a postal scale to determine weight, and then prepaying for shipping via USPS/FedEx/UPS/DHL/whatever is cheapest. Of course if it's not USPS you'll have to provide your own box but you can get common sizes at Wal-Mart or other stores for <$2 and worst case you can cut to size. Or just recycle an Amazon package or something.

$15 box/packaging fee is ridiculous is the overall point. Even my local mail supply store charges like 1/3 of that.
