I had an 45gb, IBM 75 GXP go bad (who hasn't?) but compuplus wouldn't refund my money because 30 days has elasped. Now they tell me that they don't have anymore and would I like a 60gb or a 40gb? I want my money not another pos hdd. If they can't replace it with a like hdd, can I force them to give me a refund? I know, I know, check their policy. But just because they have a policy dosen't make it a legal remedy.

I believe most policies will state something like "We will replace with the same or better." Hence, you may be up the creek.

You may be out of luck if you want a refund, but don't take my word for it. 😉

just call IBM and they give you an RMA # to mail your drive into, and they should mail out a replacement within a week or 2. I had to RMA an IBM drive, and it was quick and painless. IBM will get my repeat business because of it.

I am glad you had luck with yours but I have read of too many horror stories with these drives. Some people are on their 3rd or 4th RMA. I don't have the time or desire to go thru that.

Umm, I havent heard of much bad things with the 60GXP. I would probably go for the 40GB one if your worried. I havent heard of them, but there might be, but I'm pretty sure the 40GB one will be fine.

<< didn't they have a recall on these and allowed you to swap with to 60series? >>

If they had a recall I didn't hear of it. Anyone else??

YES! compuplus refunded my money. Now, when my remaining 75 GXP goes bad they'll have to do it again.
