RMA Old Board and Get to Keep It?

Trying to avoid being an unreasonable customer...

I need to RMA a motherboard. It's almost certain that I will get a replacement that is a step up. Issue being I can't afford new parts right away (CPU/RAM etc) for a new gen mobo.

So far the answer has been no, but what prevents EVGA from sending back the old board after the RMA is done? If I get the old board back I can attempt a repair without voiding warranty (pretty sure its a capacitor). That way I have a working computer in the meanwhile.

Are they concerned I'll sell it? It's a 775 board... Anyone familiar with the industry know why they'd be reluctant to send the old board back with the replacement after the RMA is verified and completed?

Are you questioning whether when you RMA a board, in return you will receive the defective board back and a replacement ?

Yes. Typically they don't send the old stuff back. I want to make an exception in my case but so far basic tech has said no with no explanation. Trying to find out why and if its worthwhile escalating.

Best case they sell you the defective motherboard.

However, I wouldn't expect it to have a warranty. Your remedy under the RMA/warranty is a working motherboard. Not a working motherboard and your original board that you want to tinker with.

are you talking about the evga 780i?

and why would they give you the old board back?
Thats not how a RMA works.

If you want to keep the board, then DONT RMA.

And is it worth escalating... no...
Be thankful your on a old legacy board which eVGA offered a limited lifetime warrenty too.

If your too strapped for cash to afford parts for the new board, then sell the replacement on ebay, and use that money to buy a new lga775 board, if you can find one.

But they will not give u back the old board period. You'd honestly have better luck going behind the dumpster bin at their corporate office and waiting for them to toss it back vs asking them to mail it back to you.
