RMA Ethics Question

So, I bought some sticks of Corsair memory and 1 stick went bad, they sent me 2 (TwinX matched pair) in return since they no longer had the single sticks in stock.

My problem is this, originally I had 4 GB total running dual channel (4X1GB sticks), since I got the new replacement memory it will no longer work in dual channel mode with my older memory. I am thinking of explaining the situation to them, but I'm wondering if this is ethical? On one hand I originally had 4 sticks all working in dual channel, and since they didnt have the same part as replacement it screwed my dual channel setup. But on the other hand, I hate to complain since I did end up with extra memory, just not how I want to use it.

Should they replace? Is it ok to ask them to do so?

If it negatively affects the performance of your computer then you might want to send it back. If there is no effect then I don't see the value in the effort.

There is a small difference but as purchased it worked fine, didnt stop working until they replaced with dislike parts.

I would say yes as long as you provide the same info you provided us IMO RadiclDreamer. 🙂

You're computer won't do asymmetric dual-channel?

Dont think this was an option with DDR1 memory configs. As far as I know its just the newer DDR3 I7 setups that do this

It seems obvious but:
- are you using the right slots to pair up the memory?
- are you putting the slower memory into the first bank?
- did you try going into the BIOS to manually set timing to match the slower pair?

Well, I was honest with them and explained the situation and it seems that they are willing to replace the other stick with the same type as I got for replacement

Kudos to corsair for making the extra effort!

Kudos indeed. Corsair seem pretty cool, I had a pen drive die and the replaced it quickly 🙂
