I just built this system for my best friend out of my spare parts(AnandTech member 'MangoDude', if any of you know him..).
Enlight 7237 w/300W
Celeron 366@550
128MB PC133
ABit BE6-2
ABit Slotket !!!
SB 512
Intel Ethernet Card
6GB Maxtor
1GB WD
52x Creative

I told him I'd give him my TNT2 Ultra, or let him "borrow" my Radeon 32MB DDR. Is he going to notice a difference in FPS? Besides the basic difference in visual quality, is it going to be any faster, considering his computer is fairly "slow". Please give me your thoughts..

Depending on what games. For example, with Giants, definitely yes.

The TNT2 Ultra WAS a very good card, but I think you would be much happier with the Radeon.

The TNT2 Ultra is probably enough for the 550, but if he has 80 bucks to spend, then he might as well go and get the Radeon LE 32 MB.

You guys should have read the post better. First off, its NOT my computer! Second off, I own both cards already, and im trying to decide whether its logical to give him the Radeon or not...

Oh well :)

He has the computer at home running the Radeon already.

Are you deranged? Do you have mad cow desease?

Ok, I ALREADY OWN BOTH DAMN CARDS..so he doesn't need to buy EITHER ONE! I was asking about a FPS increase, NOT WHETHER HE SHOULD BUY IT OR NOT. OMG..people are illeterate and they need to learn how to read before they are even allowed to be a member here. OMG..

SiliconVandal,
Ok here's a definite answer for you. Of course he's going to see and fps increase from a Radeon as compared to a TNT2 Ultra. Your comparing old technology to the latest video card from ATI. They wouldn't put out a new product if it couldn't compete with a card thats already outdated. As for the system being a bottleneck, sure, but only if he's running at 800x600 res or below. The Radeon will still be faster at that resolution anyways.

To tell you the truth i'm not sure most people understood your question. Why would you let him borrow a Radeon? Just give him the TNT2 Ultra for now, and he can buy a Radeon later if he wants to, or buy yours.

When I had this system a few years ago, I noticed no difference from my Riva TNT to a GeForce 256 32 DDR..that's why I ask.

Because he has no money. No money..no..money. He has a very small allowance, but he has to use that to eat lunch. I have a way better video card than the Radeon, so I see nothing wrong with letting him borrow it. I would like a second card for "diagnostic & toubleshooting" purpose's, because I make computers for a living, but I have a cheap Diamond Speedstar A200 AGP I can use.

I see. Well that makes more sense then. I'd say let him borrow the Radeon. I had a 400mhz PII before I upgraded and I noticed a huge difference between my old Diamond TNT2 card and my Radeon 32 meg LE that I had installed for awhile.

Ok great. He already has it and loves it, but at the time of posting I was triyng to decide which to give him. Sorry I got mad, it was just extremely irritating..the problem is not my post, it's the fact that they read the subject, and the comp specs, and assumed. :)

Yeah, totally understandable why you got mad. Hope we answered your question.
Anyway, I guess you spolied him hu? It would be hard to put a TNT2 Ultra in your system after you've already seen the speed and visual quality of a Radeon.

<Yeah, totally understandable why you got mad. Hope we answered your question> Me too, I hate it when I pay big money for technical support, but all you get is help and opinions.

LOL guys. Think my blood sugar was low :) Kinda pissy..ya know?

Well, I let him use the Radeon because if I was in his place I would much rather have the radeon. The visual quality doesn't really matter, because he runs everything at 640x480 or 800x600x16, on a fuzzy 15". Guess I did spoil him...I measured FPS in CS on his comp..the Radeon isn't any faster at 640x480x16. Oh well :)
