its called supply and demand

refiners aren't capable of producing any more gas at really any cost than they already are (refineries are all effectively maxed out), so margins stay relatively the same.

also it takes time to redirect and ship oil when production in the gulf for example is cut off. Tankers don't move very fast.

refineries are knocked out, cutting Aggregatesupply, while demand stays roughly the same, and aggregate demand stays the same, and prices rise and profits rise. If you don't like it then i guess you don't like that whole capitalism and free market stuff.

I am going to create an engine that runs off of BS. That is the only thing readily available from the oil producers for free.

OPEC Isnt the problem. The US refiners are the real problem. They havent built a new refinery in the last 30 years even though demand has gone up 30%. They make more money by selling less product so they won't build new ones, they even support environmentalists who protest the idea of new refineries. Motherfvckers.

yeah but then the "Organization of the Water Exporting Countries" (OWEC) will come up with a "shortage" of supply of water...causing the cost of water to go up by 500%....

Ummm. Actually the blame for not building a a new refinery needs to be laid directly at the feet of the enviromental lobby in this country.

we havent even discovered half of earth's oil yet, and we drill millions of gallons a day.
a liter of water costs more than a liter of gas.

the mets haven't won since 1986:)()...some things just can't be explained

How "pre-katrina" are we talkin' about?? "Pre-Katrina" is rather vague considering the whole nation did a massive "wave" with a couple ripples in it for about 3 months prior to Katrina............

:p

I say, bring it on...........I bought my little car just in time........30mpg and lovin' every mile of it!! FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See? They learned a thing or two from DeBeer's business model for limiting the supply of diamonds.

Oh yeah, price went up because of supply and demand during Katrina... that's why the price in Phoenix has never again dropped below 2.90. It's still 2.92 for the cheap stuff here. The real reason is simply rampant greed.

You guys are so ignorant..... price goes up when supply drops....

That is out of the control of some of these companies.... hurricane shuts down X Million BPD.....

at that point we have a shortage, so price goes up
