Rise of the planet of Apes

Saw the movie today. It wasn't too bad, but I guess you could say it falls a little bit from "WALL-E Syndrome" where the majority of the movie is spent with characters that don't talk... since they're monkeys. 😛

Although, I think my viewing experience was a bit marred by the theater failing at sound checks... pretty bad when I pay a premium price to even go there. :\ The audio channels seemed to be mixed up, which bothers me as I'm used to hearing voices from a center channel (in front of you) and all voices came from the left. All music and sound effects came from the center and nothing came from the right.

EDIT:

I can barely remember the original movies, but I think there were a lot of references to some of the apes from them? I'm not really sure, but they seemed to focus on a few things often that I assume are references. 😛

The first movie was a strong testimony against dogmatism, intolerance, and religious fundamentalism. Does this remake address this?
 
The previous "Apes" movie from 2001 was so bad and the ending so ridiculous that I promised myself that I would never pay to watch another again.

I hope this one is better ... but I will not pad the coffers of the morons in HW by paying to see this.
 
haven't seen it but still not sure how they take over, the number of chimps around is tiny, and even ifyou do get genetically smart, you still have to learn, chimpy isn't getting a phd in a couple days.

I wouldn't read this spoiler tagged part if you plan on seeing the movie:

They don't actually take over in the movie. It ends up with about 40 of them getting into some state park outside San Francisco. It's also worth noting that the movie makes sure to mention that the smartness is passed down genetically in the monkeys. Rewind a little bit, and you see how the monkey trainer (Tyler Labine's character) who accidentally breathed in some of the new Alzheimer's cure (Z113 -- the stronger version of Z112) dies from the virus, but not before coughing on the main character's neighbor. In a scene before the rolling credits, you see that the neighbor is also infected. This supposedly alludes to the fact that this virus will start wiping out humanity as the apes are immune.

So yeah... you could argue that the movie doesn't really go anywhere, and leaves a lot open for a sequel or simply up to your imagination.
 
I found the movie slow paced until the last 10 minutes. If you saw the trailer, you pretty much saw all the action this movie has. I fell asleep due to boredom.

Yeah... the apes didn't really "win"... it's more like humanity lost.

That said, I'd imagine that if this ever happened in the real world, they would have called in the Marines and slaughtered every living thing in that redwood forest.

Pretty sure the original planet of the apes is on earth. The 2001 movie is NOT the original.
